I agree that it is high time to take advantage of this discussion
momentum and to turn it into an actual project. There seems to be both a
need, and people willing to contribute.

Further, the discussion on this list has grown fairly academic. I think
it would be healthy to spin off a project, including a new mailing list
where discussion by those actually involved in making the new software
could take place. I suspect that many issues will be best resolved by
decisions made by the implementors, which should be a bit more
straightforward than reaching group consensus at an abstract level on
this list. :-)

If the Church is not ready to officially launch this project, I suggest
that one be created on Savannah or SourceForge, and that those
interested start moving forward with it.
