Thanks for the extra info.. as I said, there were reports all over the news on Saturday here in London that the march/protest was hijacked, they suspected by anarchists.

This meant that locals were having to walk through a nearby park to bypass the closed off section of the high street. Part of that route was through a poorly lit park where muggings were commonplace after dark. A lot of the locals were up in arms that the police wouldn't provide extra plod to safeguard people walking that way after dark. I saw no 'anarchist' involvement in Tottenham, and to be fair, anarchists don't usually go looting, they just like top smash stuff up. After the initial protest at the police station, things got a bit heated as the police refused to send out a representative to meet the group. It was after this as darkness started to fall that the local 'yoofs' grasped the opportunity to have a go at the police. Sensing the police inability to take control of the situation, it then started to descend into anarchy and looting. Blackberry BBM was then used to orchestrate the looting of the nearby retail park at Tottenham Hale, knowing the police would be too occupied trying to contain events in the high street to respond quickly to the looting going on at the retail park. After that, the tactic has been used to loot other shops. It's all about personal gain and organised crime, which is why retail outlets, particularly phones & electronics suppliers have been targeted. What happened in Ealing for instance was a gang of about 250-300 from outside the area just looting the high street and basically being cunts.
