Anna,
Your question directly implies forcing people, against their will, to "share". Of course before the "shared" wealth can be given to the less fortunate, it has to be passed through the hands of those who do the forcing: the government. Of course the gov usually takes the majority (to "pay" for their "services"). Is this actually what you intended to endorse? It is simple robbery, in the guise of a lofty purpose. It's one of the greatest gov cons of all time, and most often repeated historical mistakes. And if you think your computerment would take the corruption out of the equation, you are wrong. Computers are already a large part of gov. Has it become more rational and less corrupt? No. Computers only do as they are programmed and are only as honest as their owners. (I don't think the DEA's computers know they are aiding a massively corrupt, unconstitutional and destructive scheme.) And even under the best-case scenario of your computertopia, where the forcers don't take most of the money/taxes, it still ends up being oppression. Because forcefully wrenching people's money away from them is robbery (no matter what the lofty purpose / excuse). And if you think the ethical intention to help the poor trumps the unethical act of robbery, you've seen way too many Robin Hood movies. -Mark _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Anna Sent: Friday, November 18, 2005 10:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Libertarian] Re: the truth.... But honestly, should we not share our good fortune with those who are sick, old or disabled? A society that ignores its poor, cannot be healthy or morally strong. Do you want to resurrect Sparta?
