It's amazing that people in this country would object to the hundreds of literacy programs paid for by the Federal government. It's amazing that the people of this country would object to the Department of Labor which champions the cause of the worker against capitalistic greed. It's amazing that the people of this country would object to the DEA and ONDCP which protects our children from harmful drugs. It's amazing that the people in this country would object to the Department of Education which helps set standards for, and equalizes public education across the country. It's amazing that the people of this country would object to the Transportation Department which is responsible for the building of bridges and highways and thoroughfares that are needed to move goods all across this great nation of ours. It's amazing that the people of this country would object to our foreign aid programs which help people in 3rd world countries obtain economic opportunities and obtain medicines for virulent diseases that otherwise would kill millions.
Shall I go on? Every program has it's defenders, people who speak eloquently as they reach into the pocket of the taxpayer who can do little but let them do so (unless that taxpayer prefers imprisonment to productivity.) You're right John. The Federal Government of the United States is bound by treaty to certain obligations to various Native American tribes. The problem is, I and most people like me, had no hand in that decision but were instead forced into a state of indebtedness by our the representatives of people who died long ago. I and most people who live today are not responsible for the sins of our forefathers. We, as taxpayers, are no more morally obligated to pay that debt than if the Federal Government had promised 40 hours a week of labor from each and every working American citizen go to pay it. Charity and compassion do not come at the point of a gun. I'll grant, though, that your program probably deserves to be cut last, and deserves to be heard most when it comes to voluntary charity for those most harmed by the actions of our forefathers. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of John Stroebel Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2006 11:06 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Libertarian] Re: Youthful Entrepreneurs I'll do ol Davie one better.... a government big enough to spit on the Constitution and Bill of Rights and get an applause for it is big enough to outdo every fascist regime in history. remember one thing....wanting food and shelter as promised in a contract is not asking for 'everything'. In fact, I am amazed that anyone in this nation would object to it.
