What's happening to you is normal. To solve the problem, keep your
intended volume in a variable, and then before you set the new
QuickTIme movie playing, set its volume to the variable. Make sure to
have the QuickTime movies pausedatstart, and set them playing using
Lingo after having set the volume. If you don't, you'll get a moment
of loudness before the volume change takes place.
If you can get it working with volume control, instead of soundlevel,
you should do that for the Mac as well, because its more polite to
just control the volume of your sound sources, rather than change the
volume of the whole machine.
