1 additional piece of info:
    Setting (the soundLevel) (=the global machine volume) doesn't work 
on some PC's. Perhaps you have one of these & that's why you were 
getting no response from this approach. As Colin pointed out, it's 
also considered rude to the end user.

Using the Quicktime sprite's volume as an attenuator is probably the 
best solution for your situation.

Setting it on beginSprite should work if all the QT's are to play 
back at the same volume.
