One thing to know is that the volume scale goes up to 255(*). Your
125 was probably just an example, but it would be fairly quiet.
I wouldn't set the volume every frame. Do what I was suggesting, only
set the volume when either the user makes a change, or when you are
about to start playing a new QuickTime clip. I have seen cases on PCs
where setting the volume every frame would cause the playback to be
very poor.
(*) anecdote time....
You can set the volume of a QuickTime movie to more than 255, at
least on a Mac. QuickTime has built into it the ability to overdrive
sound. A sensible use for this would be to boost the level on a too
quiet audio track. I made a different use for it when I did the "This
Is Spinal Tap" CD-ROM. In the interface there's a rotary volume
control. I scaled it so that at the 6 position it was already on a
level of 255. If you turned it all the way up (naturally it goes to
11), the level is getting on for 1024. This easily made it Britain's
loudest CD-ROM!
