I know that the image in 24 bit certainly looks much better than 16 bit, but is it worth it...
It is well and good to say that everything depends on the client (after all he is footing the bill) but do we just design anything based on what a client says? I think the user is also very important. If we knew more or less who our target audience would be, I think we would be better able to cater to their needs. How many of us are on cable? I think that at least half of the world is still on dial -up. If we produced a shockwave movie that took such a long time to download, I think we have lost most of our potential customers. Who wants to sit around waiting (even 1 or 2 minutes) to see a Shockwave movie being downloaded? Similarly if users are on slower machines e.g. Pentium or lower, the playback rate would be very much slower than a Pentium IV. If I were a user, I would certainly hope very much that my needs were taken into consideration when the developer designed the software.
