I always use TIFF or PNG. TIF is the ultimate standard in image quality; it maintains
all image data. PNG is similar in that you
can use alpha channels and combines the best compression advantages from both GIF and
JPG. It also maintains a higher quality of
image than either GIF or JPG. Personally, I prefer to use Photocaster to import
Photoshop images directly, but that's just a time
saver. Without that I would use TIFF most of the time. JPG is a format that's only
for either web graphics or sending a large
image to somebody when you don't need to maintain image quality. I stay away from it
for CD-ROM use; you can really degrade the
quality of the images if you're not careful.

Just a question, in what format do you save the images e.g. buttons, icons -
TIFF or GIF? Which is better?

How about photos/pictures? Are they in JPEG format?

I know that Director compresses JPEGs further, and this compression makes
the image look quite different from what was intended. What's your take on
this?

All this is for a production on a cd-rom.
