Right.  A Linux-based Intel system (or Opteron, or Sempron, or whatever)
would be a good choice for this.  You probably don't want to go with PC
class hardware, though.  Go for something in a real server form factor.

With the problems we've had with our Windows based fax server recently,
some upper management has requested that we investigate the possibility
of running this on Linux on z/Series.  From what I have seen so far, it
seems that a PC based server with a multi port phone card is what is
required.
