In addition to seconding (thirding?) the recommendations elsewhere of LinuxMint and PCLinuxOS, I would also suggest (given your Vista-capable hardware) Fedora 8. Fedora 7 was my first working Linux. I have since had some minor issues with it, and don't use it currently, but it might work for you...
The problem you're most likely to have is support for your wifi card, which is why I took Fedora off my Compaq Presario V2000 (w/ Broadcom 4318). Sure, I used ndiswrapper to set the 4318 up, and got it to work, but Fedora's frequent kernel updates kept breaking the driver and forcing me to re-make ndiswrapper about every other month! If yours works under F-8 without resorting to ndiswrapper, it's worthwhile. OOooooh, I just noticed that MEPIS has just released SimplyMEPIS 7.0! MEPIS 6.5 was a "so-close-but-not-quite-right" for me, I'll have to check this one out and report back to you... --- In [email protected], "Ben" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Wich flavor of Linux would you suggest, I'm just a typical web surfer > if that helps any.
