Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to the Levy Letter and the start of another
week. I hope your weekend was good. I hope you will be able to look out for
your Levy Letter every day this week and of course join me on BBC1 at 6.30pm
every night this week. Don’t forget, if there’s someone you know, who’s not
signed up for the Levy Letter, well they’re missing out as you very well know.
Tell them what they have to do. Direct them to the two addresses at the bottom
of the page, click on Levy Letter, follow the instructions through and sign up
and they will get their Levy Letter from tomorrow!

Just a quick email here from Daphne. This one’s just a little bit late. I
should have done it on Friday. It says, “I wonder if you could give a surprise
to my Mum, Edith Grant, and wish her a very happy 95th birthday for Friday 25th
November.” That comes from her daughter Daphne and her grandson Richard of
Canada. “She watches your show every night and she has a signed picture of you
on her unit. And I wonder whether you could give her a mention.” Well, Daphne,
thank you very much. That’s Daphne Lawson, thank you for your note. Sorry it’s
a little bit late, it was all very hectic at the end of last week, but Edith
Grant, a very happy birthday to you for Friday. Many happy returns and I hope
your day was good.

Pay Day

Well, if you’re plucking up courage to ask someone, ie your boss, for a pay
rise, well, the best day to do it (and it’s not today, nor tomorrow) it’s
Wednesday! Bosses are more likely to say yes to a pay rise on a Wednesday, than
on any other day of the week, so says research. It may be better to get a
holiday authorised on a Monday, break bad news on a Tuesday, flag up new ideas
on a Thursday and ask for a favour on a Friday. Senior executives have
different frames of mind on different days of the week as work builds up or as
the weekend gets nearer. This is all according to new research just out. 78%
said that they were more receptive to enquiries about money matters, ie asking
for a pay rise, on a Wednesday. The beginning of the week used to be identified
with Monday morning blues. This is no longer true. Refreshed by the weekend,
most bosses come in to work full of enthusiasm. 71% said that on a Monday
morning, is the time they are most likely to sign contracts and deals!
. There you are, if you want a pay rise just in time for Christmas, then ask
your boss on a Wednesday. If you want to break some bad news, do it on a
Tuesday, submit new ideas on a Thursday and if you want a favour from the boss
then ask on Friday. So if my boss is reading the Levy Letter today, and I know
she sometimes does, then expect a visit on Wednesday!

Carol Service

Just a reminder that there is a big carol service taking place, as there is
every year, at the Street Life museum in Hull. It’s on Thursday the 8th
December. There’ll be various people there doing the readings. There’ll be the
usual brass band music. It’s always a great affair and there’ll be some
fabulous live music from Amy Black. Now if you want to come along, it starts at
7.30pm and there’ll be some live music from Amy Black. So if you want to come
along to the Street Life museum a week on Thursday, I’ll be there to do one of
the readings as I have done for the last three years. This will be the fourth
year I’ve done it. So, I hope to see you there at the Street Life museum.

Workaholics

Being the wife of a workaholic is not a bed of roses, but it might feel like
one, because women, whose husbands work long hours in the office are often
happier with their love lives than those who have a man about the house,
according to a new study. It seems that men, who are passionate about their
jobs, are also the most passionate lovers! They say that don’t they? If you’re
active at work, then you’re probably active at home too. I don’t know what that
says about me. Women, whose husbands and boyfriends are dedicated to their
careers, report that they are more sexually satisfied than those whose partners
are more family orientated. So there you are, it’s not all bad news if you are
married to a workaholic or to someone who loves his job!

I’m A Celebrity

Thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. Many have been on the
subject of I’m A Celebrity and of course now we find out that Cannon and Ball
were selected to go in to the jungle, but of course they’re also on their way
to Hull for pantomime this year. They’re doing Dick Whittington with Amy Black,
who I mentioned a few minutes ago. But I’ve had a lot of emails on the subject
of I’m A Celebrity. Lots of people sharing their views. Keep them coming in,
especially on Tommy Cannon’s recent eviction from the jungle and we’ll have a
little round up later on in the week with everyone’s emails on I’m A Celebrity.
I have to say that I do think it’s quite a surprise that Carol Thatcher has
been such a good sport and I think Sheree Murphy has been great right from the
start, especially last Sunday when she was so scared of flying and then not
only did she fly, but she also did a parachute jump. She’s been terrific. But
the show’s got everyone talking as it always does.

Calendar

Just the daily reminder that Children In Need may have been and gone, but on
sale now are the Children In Need, Peter and Paul 2006 calendars. They’re on
sale at the moment for £5 from our receptions at Grimsby, Hull and Lincoln and
from our two buses. If you call in, then the calendars are £5. If you want us
to send you one, then the calendars are £6. Send me a cheque made payable to
the BBC for £6 to cover postage and packing to BBC Look North Calendars, Queens
Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH. And we’ll post you off a calendar. But
get your calendar as quick as you can, because I want to give you all an update
on how much we’ve raised so far for Children In Need. But the calendars are
still on sale!

Photos

Don’t forget if you witness something really good on your digital camera, on
your video camcorder or even on your mobile phone. If there’s something that’s
happened that you think we should know about, then of course let me know. Get
in touch with me and send me an email. The usual email to get me direct is
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If there’s any stories, or anything that’s happening locally near you that you
think we should tackle on the programme then do get in touch. As you know we
take on all sorts of stories on the programme. Just recently we’ve been
covering the story of the X1 bus between Hull and Grimsby. But if there’s a
story locally to you that you think we should know about, then get in touch,
drop me a line – [EMAIL PROTECTED] And of course, if there’s anything urgent,
you can always ring me during the day at the BBC in Hull on 01482 323232.

Well, that’s it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm for all
the day’s news and Paul will have the forecast. See you then.

Take care

Peter.
