going well and that you can join me tonight BBC1 six thirty. If you’re getting

from the Lincoln Christmas Market, Hannah Moffat will be there. Paul will have
the forecast and you can join me for the rest of the day’s news. Thanks for all
your emails and letters on a variety of subjects, there’s been probably more
this week than ever before. If you want to drop me a line, or if there’s a
story that you think we should know about or if there’s something you need some
help with for Leave it to Levy, then just drop me an email. If you do write to
me, it’ll come direct to me, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Just a couple of quick letters
in for the Levy Letter. One here comes form Geoff Lambourne, he says ‘Peter re:
the Skegness singers. On Sunday we’re holding an annual carol service in St
Matthew’s Church Scarborough Avenue, Skegness. !
It starts at 3pm.’ There we are, there’s a little plug, I can’t actually make
it along, sadly. A little note here that comes form Peter Brady, ‘ Will it be
possible for you to mention the Hull male voice choir, they were formed in
1911, and they’re singing their popular annual prelude to Christmas concert
within the banqueting chamber at Guildhall on Friday evening, that’s tomorrow
at 7:30pm, tickets £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.’ There we are, a
couple of ‘what’s ons’ for you . If you’ve got something coming up that you’re
involved in and you want a plug, then do drop me a line.

Pictures

Just a reminder that we’re still looking for pictures for the big screen in the
studio. If you’ve got a particular view that you’ve taken that you like, then
send it to me, either electronically by email or send me a hard copy in the
post. Just a reminder that the calendars are still on sale for Children in
Need, even though Children in Need day has passed. If you want one, call into a
BBC reception in Hull, Lincoln or Grimsby. Or go to one of the two BBC buses,
Radio Humberside bus or the Radio Lincolnshire bus. Or if you want one sent to
you, send a cheque for £6, made payable to the BBC to the usual address, Queens
Court, Queen’s Gardens, Hull HU13RH.

Supergran

Well, while more and more parents are working hard millions of Supergrans are
arriving to the rescue of their stressed and exhausted sons and daughters.
Childcare, shopping, cooking or even money, the 21st century grandmother is
shunning an easy retirement to offer her valuable support service. Instead of
knitting at home or baking cakes, more than a third of grandparents baby-sit
their grandchildren while their parents are at work. And for grandmothers under
65, over half will do some kind of regular childcare. I don’t suppose there’s a
parent reading this who is the least bit surprised, where would we be without
our grandparents. The rise of the supergran - busy parents relying on an older
generation, it’s the headline in one of the papers this week, as I say I’m, not
in the least bit surprised. There’s an interesting facts and figures book out
at the moment, with some interesting facts that you might like to ponder on.
Two and a half hours the average women spends doing h!
ousework a day, men do an average of one hour. Can you really believe that,
two and a half hours? I find it very hard to believe that men do an hour!
Another one, the average number of miles walked by each of us in Great Britain
every year is 189, you’d think it would be higher than that wouldn’t you? 1% of
women aged 16-44, say they have had 40 or more sexual partners. Another fact,
how much do we spend in the average household on the national lottery each
week, the answer £2.30 apparently. One final one, the number of dentists per
10,000 people in the UK, 4 dentists! That’s 4 dentists per 10,000 people in the
UK. If you’ve sat through the number of dentist stories I’ve sat through on the
news lately, you would think it would be even less than that.

Flu Epidemic

Now you may have thought that they went out with Queen Victoria, but the
chimney sweep business is booming with some sweeps (now then this is the job to
be in), with some sweeps earning up to £90 000 a year. Rising energy costs and
fears that Britain’s fuel supplies won’t see us through the artic winter have
seen a surge in the use of traditional coal fires. That means a huge demand for
the UK’s only six hundred chimney sweeps. That’s all there are. But families
face weeks’ long wait in some parts of the country to get a chimney sweep.
Martin Glynn is the president for the National Association of Chimney Sweeps
and he says, “Traditionally chimney sweeps are busy at this time of the year,
but the threat of the worst winter for fifty years has led to a frenzy of
people wanting to get their chimneys swept.” So there you are, chimney sweeps –
there are only six hundred of them in the UK and some of them are earning £90
000 a year, so we now know what job to be in!

Billy Elliot

As you know our own Liam Mower from Hull is still staring in the musical, and
my word what a year it’s been, it’s now been crowned the best musical. The tale
of the little boy who dances his way into the royal ballet, capped a successful
first year in the west end by winning favour with the evening standard theatre
award judges. Sir Elton John was at the ceremony in London to watch his show
beat ‘The Big Life’ and also ‘Mary Poppins’ for the best musical, so well done
to Sir Elton and of course our own Liam Mower.

Well that’s all from me today, in Thursday’s Levy Letter. Join met tonight on
BBC1, at half past six for tonight Look North. Just a reminder, if there’s
someone you know who isn’t signed up to a Levy Letter but you think would like
one, then remind them to go to one of the two addresses at the bottom of the
page, click on Levy Letter and follow the instructions through. They will get
their first Levy Letter the day after. Have a very good day, speak to you soon.

Bye, Peter.
