Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well. I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. We’ll
have all the day’s news, Paul will have the forecast and also tonight, we’ll
have one of the stars of the new musical, Grease on the programme. It’s the new
touring version of Grease, which is just about to come to Hull New Theatre.
I’ll be talking to the actress, who plays Sandy, a little bit later on.

And just a quick word of congratulations to the Hull cast of the pantomime,
Dick Whittington, which has just finished its run for the last month in Hull.
It’s been a tremendously successful pantomime. Indeed, the most successful
pantomime ever that there has been at the Hull New Theatre. And I saw it on
Saturday. Well done to Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball – they really are superb.
I’m hoping, in a way, that the theatre managers will get Cannon and Ball back
for another pantomime, maybe not next year, but the Christmas after. They
really did very well indeed. In the meantime, so many people have said to me
how funny the lads are and they’re coming with their own show to the New
Theatre in April. So look out for that.

Well done also to Hull’s Amy Black. She plays Fairy Bowbells in the pantomime.
Sometimes the part of the fairy can be a little bit of a wishy-washy character,
but Amy played it superbly and got plenty of laughs as well and it’s not a role
that normally gets the laughs, but well done to the whole production company
and of course Hull New Theatre for an excellent pantomime this year.

Pictures

Don’t forget, keep the pictures and photographs coming in and just another
thank you to all those who have given me tips and advice on how to operate my
digital camera and how to get the photographs out of the digital camera and
onto my computer. I have to say that everyone has said that it’s not too
complicated. I suppose I’ve got on reasonably well with it, but this camera
I’ve bought seems to have an awful lot of controls on it, some of which I’m
sure will never be used! But I’m hoping that in the near future I’ll find out
if we can put any pictures into the Levy Letter. I’m not sure whether we can or
not, but I’m going to find out. If we can, then I’ll put some of my photographs
on. Maybe we could put on some of yours as well. But don’t send them yet,
because I’ve got to find out first whether or not it’s possible technically.
But thank you to everyone, who’s given me advice and tips on taking pictures
with my new digital camera. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Britney

Britney Spears has been named as the Worst Dressed Woman of 2005! The
twenty-four year old singer topped the list of fashion victims compiled by the
fashion experts. Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria, was described as
having a gorgeous face, but garish taste. Mariah Carey and the actress, Rene
Zellweger, also made the top ten list of the worst dressed women, but Britney
Spears comes out on top!

Talking of clothes, at a wedding, all eyes are on the bride of course. For such
a big occasion, the dress had better look good, as all eyes are going to be on
the bride. Well, we’re going to be spending more than ever to ensure it does
look good. A traditional bridal gown now costs an average of £826.00 – a third
more than it would have done five years ago. Just for the dress for the big day
– the average price is £836.00! The trend is driven by women getting married
later in life with more money to spare and by the availability of designer
wedding gowns worn by the likes of Victoria Beckham. So there you are, some
info if you’re getting married. It hasn’t got the average cost of a wedding
here, I shudder to think what that is! – but the average dress now costs
£826.00!

Diet

As you know, I’ve started a new healthy eating regime following Dr Gillian
McKeith’s advice at the start of this new year. In the kitchen now, there are
all the beans, and the poppy seeds and the sesame seeds and I’m attempting to
give up white bread too. So I’m following this healthy diet, but one of the
things you can eat, which is good for you, is porridge. I see that the world’s
first porridge bar has arrived to make you Quake or perhaps Quaker! Tony Stone
says that the place, which is in Edinburgh, is called Stote’s Porridge Bar, and
offers the ultimate healthy fast food and he plans to export his idea around
the globe. So there you are, healthy food is catching on with the world’s first
porridge bar! It doesn’t really have the same ring to it does it?

Get In Touch

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a story or an idea or if there’s somebody you’d
particularly like to see on the programme as a guest or an issue for us to talk
about, then do get in touch! Last week, we had a huge response on the subject
of wheelie bins. Again, that story came from quite a few people emailing in and
contacting me in the first place. Any ideas, or any thoughts, then please do
get in touch. If it’s urgent, then ring, or just send me an email to [EMAIL
PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Ipod

Well, many people got Ipods for Christmas, but I see from the paper this
morning that Ipods are back in the shops again now after selling out over
Christmas. But what about this for a story? Listening to loud music on personal
music players, such as an Ipod, can trigger tumours that lead to deafness, it
emerged yesterday. Researchers said that repeated exposure to excessive noise
can increase the risk of developing acoustic neuroma. This is a non-cancerous
tumour, which can cause hearing damage by pressing on crucial nerves. So there
you are. If you’ve got an Ipod, then be warned!

For someone like me, who started wearing headphones listening to loud music
when I first started working on radio when I was nineteen and am now fifty,
then obviously over the years, pumping music into my headphones, I’m sure it’s
affected my hearing and I often have to turn the music level up and up and up.
And now I’m fifty, I notice that sometimes I can be in a room with someone and
a mobile phone can go off and ring and I don’t hear it! What I’m basically
trying to say is that I’m heading towards deafness! But it’s ok, in the Sunday
magazine supplement, there’s an advertisement for a little hearing aid that you
pop straight in your ear and that means you’ll be able to hear everything. So
there you are. Do I sound like a desperately old man today? I think I do.

Well, that’s it from me for today. Thank you very much for reading the Levy
Letter. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. Don’t forget if you want to drop me
a line, then it’s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Take care and have a very good day.

Peter
