Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope you can
join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm for all the day’s news. And tonight, I’ll be
talking to Paddy McGuinness. He works of course on Max and Paddy with Peter Kay
and he’s just about to go on tour and is coming to our part of the world
shortly. I’ll be talking to Paddy tonight and Lisa will have the forecast
tonight as well.

Also, as you may remember, we reported on the deaths of three people from a
carbon monoxide leak in their home in North Hykeham. Well, I’ll be offering
tips and advice as to how you can keep your loved ones safe and help to prevent
a similar tragedy occurring again. I’ll also be giving away carbon monoxide gas
detectors on the programme tonight, so tune in to learn how you can get your
hands on one.

I’ll be looking at pioneering new research into asthma and the studies going on
in our region for a new vaccine. Something of interest there for many people
I’m sure. And tune in tonight as I’ll be announcing the winner of the Jo Brand
competition to win tickets to see Jo perform in York. A very busy show, so I
hope you can join me then.

Emails

Thank you for all the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming in and
of course keep your photographs coming in. Also, if there’s a story that you
think we should know about that we might be able to cover on the programme or
any pictures that you think we might like to see, then get in touch with me
direct at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Paintings

We’ve got a special competition, which we launched on the programme on Monday
night, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Humber Bridge.
We want you to paint or draw the bridge and the best pictures will go on show
in an exhibition later this year. The competition is open to anyone. You don’t
have to be a great artist. You can get more information on this by going to our
Humber website and that address is www.bbc.co.uk/humber. There’s plenty of
time to enter this competition, which will run until April. Don’t send in your
original painting though, just in case it gets damaged or spoiled. Just get a
photograph of your painting and send that in instead. Of course, stay tuned for
more details on who has won. I look forward to seeing your paintings and
receiving the photographs of your paintings as soon as possible.

Porridge

As you know, I was saying yesterday about doing Gillian McKeith’s diet at the
moment. Well, not only does Gillian recommend porridge, but also the GI diet,
which everyone is talking about as well, recommends porridge. And now all the
papers are singing the praises of eating porridge first thing in the morning as
well. Experts say it has many benefits, including helping in weight loss.
Experts at Oxford University found that those eating low GI foods were less
likely to binge on sugary snacks. It’s good for pregnant women as it’s high in
folic acid. It improves your sex life – oats can boost the libido by helping
rebalance testosterone and oestrogen in the body. It’s good for the heart. By
eating fibre-rich foods, it reduces the risk of heart disease. It also lowers
cholesterol and improves the skin. All those benefits from one little bowl of
porridge. Especially good for psoriasis and eczema apparently! So there you
are, get eating your porridge in the morning!

Singles

It’s not the first time we’ve talked about this, but yet again it’s in the news
– they’re talking about the number of single people in this country. Those, who
are free agents, are more likely to be loaded, than lonely, a study has found.
More than 40% of the population, that’s fourteen million people are now single
and it’s reckoned that their extra spending power gives them much more
happiness than romance ever could. So, it sounds like we’re getting much more
materialistic and greedy. More than a third of the women interviewed and 28% of
men said they preferred to have money than love. Only 16% said that finding a
life partner was likely to have the greatest impact on their lives. So there
you are. Fourteen million single people and they’ve got plenty of money and
they’re happy with their lot! I’m not saying a single word.

Queues

Well, they always say that the English love to queue – that it gives us
something to moan about. Well, yesterday there was one queue forming that I
would have loved to have joined. A cash machine yesterday was doubling peoples’
money! If you typed in £10, then it gave out £20, if you requested £100, it
gave you £200! My sort of cash machine! As you can imagine, word got about and
huge queues started forming as people wanted to take advantage of this ATM’s
generosity. Well, it’s not often the bank is generous, but lucky customers were
told that they could keep their money as it was the bank’s mistake and not
theirs! Well, lucky them!

Well that’s it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. And don’t
forget, if there’s someone you know who is not receiving a Levy Letter and
would like one on a daily basis, then you know what to tell them. Direct them
to either of the two addresses at the bottom of the page, click on Levy Letter,
follow the instructions through and then they’ll get their Levy Letter everyday
from tomorrow. Thanks for reading. Don’t forget if you want to drop me a line,
then do so straight away at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Take care

Peter
