Hello its Peter here and welcome to Fridays Levy Letter. Yes its Friday the 17th of November, and of course it is Children in Need day. If youre involved with one of the many events this day, and over the weekend then the very best of luck, and thank you very much indeed to everyone whos donated and done something so far for charity. Of course that includes everyone who came to the Audience with Peter Levy on Sunday at Hull Truck theatre. £4,500 was raised from the ticket sales that night for Children in Need. And as I say, if youre involved with an event today then I hope it goes well. And on the programme tonight well have more details of Children in Need, and also tonight we have a special report on the row brewing over where to house Britain's nuclear waste, and why Lincolnshire could be a prime site. That sounds like itll be a controversial issue, and well be looking into it.
We'll speak to network rail about the £55 million upgrade to rail links, and what this means for rail passengers and road users alike. How good are your fret changes? On Look North tonight well challenge one reporter to rock out at the air guitar championships in our region. Air guitar is of course when you mime guitar playing to a favourite track. Thatll be interesting And I'll be talking to the corduroy comedian Marcus Brigstocke as he hits the road. You might recognise Marcus from the television, and hell be joining me for a chat. The weather today comes from Lisa Gallagher, and of course well have the rest of the days stories from across our region tonight at half past six. If youre around this evening and youd like to come to The Deep for our Children in Need event, then get there early if you want to get inside. Well be broadcasting live from The Deep between seven and ten this evening on BBC One. Pictures The rumours are that the weather is going to turn over the weekend, and there may even be some snow around. If youve got a good picture, a local view that youre particularly proud of and you think we could show it on the programme about half way through then let me have it, and well put it on the TV one night on Look North. The email address is of course [EMAIL PROTECTED] Leave it to Levy Dont forget, if youve got a problem or an issue that you think we could deal with on the programme and you think we might be able to sort something out, then give me the story and the details and let me have a telephone number as well. You can email me at the usual address. Coast I dont know if youve been watching the series of Coast on BBC Two these last few weeks. Its been absolutely superb. Obviously I enjoyed last nights programme because it was all about Cornwall and the isles of Scilly, my old hunting ground, and where my family are from. The series itself has been brilliant, and Im hoping theres going to be a DVD out of that before too long, to get before Christmas. And I forgot to mention yesterday, but the night before last, on Wednesday was a drama documentary about the tragic sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise. It was supposed to be a routine ferry crossing in March 1987, and 193 passengers, many of whom had taken up a newspaper offer of a crossing for just a pound, perished when the chip capsized after the bow doors has been left open. It was a very moving and upsetting programme, but nevertheless it was extremely well made, and for those who remember the tragedy at the time, Im, sure they were as moved as I was. Carol Service Its an annual event, the Lord Mayors Carol service, and its coming up in a couple of Thursdays time. Its always a fabulous event, there are lessons and readings, and carols, brass band music. The atmosphere at the Street Life Museum is superb. Its on Thursday the seventh of December, and theres going to be readings from John Godbers wife Jane Thornton, and also his children. Also the playwright Alan Plater is coming up from London, and also Liam Mower. Ill be there to do a reading, as I have done for the last three or four years, and Blair Jacobs will be hosting it. The tickets are on sale, and it is a very good cause and a lovely evening. And you get a drink and a mince pie when the service is over. Thats the annual Lord Mayors carol service. Get your ticket now and I look forward to seeing you at the Street Life Museum on Thursday the 7th of December. Well thats just about it from me. Ive got a very busy weekend. Ill be at Children In Need tonight at The Deep, if youre coming down then do say hello. And Im also making a film in Hornsea tomorrow. Why am I in Hornsea? Well watch Look North next week to find out why.
