Hello it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter.
Yes it’s Friday the 17th of November, and of course it is Children in Need day.
If you’re involved with one of the many events this day, and over the weekend
then the very best of luck, and thank you very much indeed to everyone who’s
donated and done something so far for charity. Of course that includes everyone
who came to the Audience with Peter Levy on Sunday at Hull Truck theatre.
£4,500 was raised from the ticket sales that night for Children in Need. And as
I say, if you’re involved with an event today then I hope it goes well. And on
the programme tonight we’ll have more details of Children in Need, and also
tonight we have a special report on the row brewing over where to house
Britain's nuclear waste, and why Lincolnshire could be a prime site. That
sound’s like it’ll be a controversial issue, and we’ll be looking into it.

We'll speak to network rail about the £55 million upgrade to rail links, and
what this means for rail passengers and road users alike.

How good are your fret changes? On Look North tonight we’ll challenge one
reporter to rock out at the air guitar championships in our region. Air guitar
is of course when you mime guitar playing to a favourite track. That’ll be
interesting…

And I'll be talking to the corduroy comedian Marcus Brigstocke as he hits the
road. You might recognise Marcus from the television, and he’ll be joining me
for a chat.

The weather today comes from Lisa Gallagher, and of course we’ll have the rest
of the day’s stories from across our region tonight at half past six.

If you’re around this evening and you’d like to come to The Deep for our
Children in Need event, then get there early if you want to get inside. We’ll
be broadcasting live from The Deep between seven and ten this evening on BBC
One.

Pictures

The rumours are that the weather is going to turn over the weekend, and there
may even be some snow around. If you’ve got a good picture, a local view that
you’re particularly proud of and you think we could show it on the programme
about half way through then let me have it, and we’ll put it on the TV one
night on Look North. The email address is of course [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Leave it to Levy

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a problem or an issue that you think we could deal
with on the programme and you think we might be able to sort something out,
then give me the story and the details and let me have a telephone number as
well. You can email me at the usual address.

Coast

I don’t know if you’ve been watching the series of Coast on BBC Two these last
few weeks. It’s been absolutely superb. Obviously I enjoyed last night’s
programme because it was all about Cornwall and the isles of Scilly, my old
hunting ground, and where my family are from. The series itself has been
brilliant, and I’m hoping there’s going to be a DVD out of that before too
long, to get before Christmas.
And I forgot to mention yesterday, but the night before last, on Wednesday was
a drama documentary about the tragic sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise.
It was supposed to be a routine ferry crossing in March 1987, and 193
passengers, many of whom had taken up a newspaper offer of a crossing for just
a pound, perished when the chip capsized after the bow doors has been left
open. It was a very moving and upsetting programme, but nevertheless it was
extremely well made, and for those who remember the tragedy at the time, I’m,
sure they were as moved as I was.

Carol Service

It’s an annual event, the Lord Mayor’s Carol service, and it’s coming up in a
couple of Thursdays time. It’s always a fabulous event, there are lessons and
readings, and carols, brass band music. The atmosphere at the Street Life
Museum is superb. It’s on Thursday the seventh of December, and there’s going
to be readings from John Godber’s wife Jane Thornton, and also his children.
Also the playwright Alan Plater is coming up from London, and also Liam Mower.
I’ll be there to do a reading, as I have done for the last three or four years,
and Blair Jacobs will be hosting it. The tickets are on sale, and it is a very
good cause and a lovely evening. And you get a drink and a mince pie when the
service is over. That’s the annual Lord Mayor’s carol service. Get your ticket
now and I look forward to seeing you at the Street Life Museum on Thursday the
7th of December.

Well that’s just about it from me. I’ve got a very busy weekend. I’ll be at
Children In Need tonight at The Deep, if you’re coming down then do say hello.
And I’m also making a film in Hornsea tomorrow. Why am I in Hornsea? Well watch
Look North next week to find out why. Have a very good weekend, and if there’s
anyone you know that’s not getting their daily newsletter and would like one,
then tell them to go to www.bbc.co.uk/humber or www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire,
click on Levy Letter, sign up, and they’ll get their daily Levy Letter every
day from me starting from the following day.

Have a very good afternoon, join me tonight at six thirty, and look out for
your Levy Letter on Monday. Bye for now.

Peter
