Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news including a special report on yet another
possible jobs blow to our region.

Also on Look North tonight, find out why schools in East Riding are feeling the
pinch.

We'll go behind the scenes of tonight's big boxing match dubbed "The Rumble by
the Humber" involving two rugby league stars. That’ll attract fans of both
sports in what promises to be a spectacular event at the Hull Arena.

We’ll look at why North Lincolnshire's Thornton Abbey is set to become a
tourism hot spot. It’s had a turbulent history, and we’ll be finding out a
little more about that on the programme tonight.

And if you're a local amateur artist looking for somewhere to show off your
latest canvas or watercolour, watch the programme to find out how you can get
your work exhibited as part of a new competition. We’ll have all the rest of
the day’s news and stories from around our region as usual, and of course Paul
will be here with the forecast.

Inside Out

On Inside Out tonight on BBC One at half past seven, Paul will be talking about
the Yorkshire Wolds. If you live in the East Riding you won’t want to miss that
one. BBC One at half past seven, a little plug there for Inside out. He’ll also
be joining me on the programme as usual for the weather, and to talk about the
Yorkshire Wolds too. That’s all coming up a little bit later this evening.

Stress

Britain is in the grip of an epidemic of stress according to the researchers.
Half of the people in this country say they are more stressed than they were
five years ago. One in five people say they’re under strain every single day.
Two thirds do not sleep well, or are grumpy as a result – that’s me - while a
fifth say their sex life suffers. Money has overtaken work as the top stress
factor according to the survey of 2000 people carried out for the Samaritans to
mark National Stress Down Day. So are you stressed? If you’re not sleeping,
then you probably are. That’s a lesson for me.

Eat and Drink

Well scientists have come up with another good reason to hit the bottle. Red
wine could delay the ageing process, and it can help you live longer according
to a study. The popular tipple is already known to help prevent blood clots,
lower the risk of heart disease, and even help the body break down fats. It
contains melatonin, which protects cells from age related damage. The study on
mice suggests that even small amounts of melatonin can significantly reduce the
risks of developing illness such as Parkinson’s disease. It could also delay
complications brought on by conditions like Diabetes.
Melatonin is produced naturally in the body, and is known as the sleep hormone
because it helps the body to relax. It’s also contained in many of the popular
grape varieties used to make red wine. So there we are, red wine is fine, it’s
full of melatonin, so feel happy to drink away – well, within moderation.
If you don’t want to drink, well you can just eat onions, cherries, or bananas,
because they too contain melatonin. So if you’re a teetotaller, you have a bit
of a choice, drink a glass of red wine or eat an onion. I think most people
know which they would choose…

Letter

If there’s anyone you know that’s not signed up to the Levy Letter and you
think they’d like one, then over the weekend get them to go to one of the two
addresses at the bottom of the page, and get them to click on levy letter, and
sign up for their daily Levy Letter from me every day starting from Monday.

Skating

I don’t know about you, but I’m hooked to Skating on Ice, or Dancing on Ice, or
whatever it’s called. Of course programme number three is on Saturday night. I
think most people have got a favourite now who they would like to win, and
we’ll have to see how it pans out, but your views on that and indeed anything
else on the TV to the usual address, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Beautiful South

Thanks for all the emails on the Beautiful South and their split up. It’s very
sad. Some of the emails sound almost like there’s been some sort of
bereavement, some very sad emails. Just a reminder, there is a repeat of a
special documentary made on the Beautiful South repeated on Monday night on BBC
One at 10.35.

Well that’s all from me today, join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
Have a really great weekend, enjoy the mild weather, and look out for your Levy
Letter again on Monday. Bye for now.

Peter
