Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's new including claims from a Hull man that he saw city
waste collectors dumping rubbish in a skip. We'll show you the exclusive
pictures.

We're live in Bridlington at a huge public meeting about plans to change
hospital and community health care. Hundreds of people are expected, and I’m
sure lots of you will have strong views on this one. We’ll give you the contact
details later on the programme as usual, and don’t forget we look at every
single message.

We’ll bring you a special report on the latest high tech way of combating
truancy in Lincolnshire schools.

We'll also be with the Hull pensioner hanging up her fancy dress costume for
the last time.

And as the country is braced for the heaviest snow this year, we'll have the
latest weather news for our region from Paul Hudson.

Music

I see that The Beatles could storm the music charts again this year with a song
in every top ten slot. The Fab Four’s imminent return to the top after more
than 30 years is due to the release of their entire catalogue for legal
download for the first time. Of course records can now get in the chart by the
number of times they’re downloaded. Up to now you haven’t been able to do that
with The Beatles’ music, but soon you will be able to, and The Beatles could be
back in the charts 30 years later. They could actually take all top ten places.
If you’re interested in music from that kind of era, then listen out tomorrow
for something special on the programme, and also in the Levy Letter.

Lonely

Feeling lonely has been linked to an increased risk or developing Alzheimer’s
disease in later life. A study of pensioners found that those who felt isolated
were twice as likely to develop the degenerative brain disease as those who
experienced little loneliness. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of
dementia, and affects over 700,000 men and women in this country. A staggering
500 new cases are diagnosed every day as the population lives longer. That’s
incredible, isn’t it? 500 new cases of Alzheimer’s disease diagnosed every
single day.

4x4

Family’s who buy 4x4s in the belief that they’re safer than the average family
car are wasting their money according to researchers. They said that “Chelsea
Tractors” as they’re so called, are more likely to overturn in an accident than
other vehicles. They’re particularly unsafe if they hit motorway barriers,
experts from the Government’s transport research laboratory have discovered.
Their larger mass and higher centre of gravity means that many parents feel is
a safety plus actually makes them more likely to run out of control if they hit
an object or swerve suddenly. So there we are, the bad news for 4x4 drivers
just keeps on coming. That’s out today.

Pictures

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a photograph or a picture that you’re particularly
proud of that you’d like us to show on the programme, or if you’ve got a
problem or a story that we should know about, then drop me a line, let me know,
and also give me a contact telephone number as well. It’s [EMAIL PROTECTED] I
look forward to hearing from you.

Gadgets

Well I’m one of these suckers for any old gadget that comes out, although I
don’t buy as many as I used to when I was younger. The latest thing really is
naff, although it’s being billed as a cracking idea. It’s a toaster and egg
poacher all in one. It costs £25 and it cooks your breakfast while you’re
getting ready. The toast or muffins cook while the egg coddles away and gets
itself heated up and cooked. As well as poaching eggs, they can be scrambled by
mashing the egg as it cooks. The machine can also boil four eggs. It can cook
baked beans as well. The egg and muffin toaster can boil up to four eggs and
grill up to two slices of bread at any one time. The gadget is hugely
successful in America, and is due to arrive in Britain later this year.
Apparently, everything is ready all at the same time. You might have seen some
pictures of it, and it’s on sale at £25.

Weather

As you know, there are rumours, and only rumours at this stage, of quite heavy
snow tomorrow. I think most of the snow is going to be in the west of the
country rather than in our part of the world, but just a reminder of course
that if there is any snow, BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire will
bring you regular reports, news of any traffic problems or school closures from
early in the morning. Of course on BBC One there are breakfast Look North news
bulletins every half hour.

Well enjoy the sunshine today, it’s going to be cold, but it’ll be sunny. Enjoy
the afternoon and join me tonight at half past six as usual. Take care, bye for
now.

Peter
