Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm
for all the day’s news.

On tonight's programme, after the weekend's news that bird flu has now been
found in the UK, we'll be talking to local farmers to examine the effect this
will have on our region's poultry industry. We’ll be asking what precautions
are being taken to help prevent the spread and whether or not restrictions
placed on poultry farms are threatening farmers’ livelihood. I’d love you to
get in touch with me on this one. Do you work or own a poultry farm and are you
concerned about this outbreak of bird flu in the country? Do you live near a
turkey or chicken farm or do you own birds at home as pets? Are you worried
about their safety? Get in touch with me on this one and let me know what
you’re thinking about this outbreak of bird flu! It’s the usual address to get
me direct on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also tonight, we'll be getting the full story on the arson attack on a troubled
housing estate in Hull, which left a stroke victim having to leap to safety.
Plus we'll be talking to the school staff, who have vowed to get their building
open after an arson attack damaged their facilities. I’ll be getting the full
story on those tonight.

I'll be talking to the sixty-five year old man, who after looking for work for
ten years, has now got a job as a life model. Plus after the Rumble on the
Humber boxing match at the weekend, I'll be talking to Hull FC's captain after
his epic charity fight. All that tonight on the programme at half past six.

And Paul will have the forecast. What a fabulous weekend it was too - beautiful
sunny days and really mild, although, it was a bit cold at night, but there
were some beautiful sunny days. Whatever you had lined up at the weekend, then
I hope it went very well indeed. I did virtually nothing, but that was very
enjoyable nevertheless. It’s the start of another week. Let’s hope it’s going
to be a good one.

Silver Surfers

Am I one? Well probably and going more silver by the day. It seems that
pensioners now prefer surfing the net to gardening, DIY or going for walks.
That’s according to a new survey. It’s found that the computer is a new
favourite past time for four out of ten retired people, who typically spend an
hour a day at the screen. The major attraction is emailing friends and family,
but other interests are searching for information, online banking and also
reading the news. So there you are. The report says that the silver surfers
find it extremely enjoyable. And the myth that spending hours at your PC is
anti-social can be dispelled once and for all. If you are a silver surfer, then
let me know!

Emmerdale

The programme is still riding high. It’s interesting to know that fifty
episodes of the Yorkshire soap have just been sold to Romanian TV! Can you
believe this? Television chiefs in the central European country, famous for
vampires and the legend of Dracula, believe that viewers will want to get their
teeth into a typical British dish of scandal, intrigue and controversy from the
Dales. Fifty episodes, dating back to the year 2000, have been sold to Romania
and will start on their TV shortly.

Problems

Don’t forget if you’ve got a problem or an issue or something that you think we
could deal with on the programme, then give me the details. Give me a contact
telephone number as well. Get in touch and let me know. And it could be that
your story is on the TV shortly. Last week, one night after the show at about
five past seven, an email popped up from a viewer. That viewer was telling me
that he was a big Beautiful South fan and he’d heard that the band were
splitting up. We got that story first all thanks to that Look North viewer. We
broke that story first on the programme the following day ahead of the rest of
the UK’s media. Thanks to that viewer of the programme, who emailed me! So if
you’ve got a story then email me whenever you like – [EMAIL PROTECTED] And just
a reminder that a documentary, which was made a few years ago, on the Beautiful
South is having a re-run tonight to mark their splitting up. It’s on BBC One
tonight at 10.35.

Allergies

The number of people suffering from allergic reactions to hair dye has doubled
in the past six years, so say Doctors. Experts believe that a substance used in
dyes, which is already banned in many European countries, is the cause. They
blame the current obsession with looking young for wasting NHS money when
victims need medical treatment for their allergic reactions. This has to be put
in perspective though. Obviously loads of people use hair dye, but this affects
only a small number. Nevertheless that number has doubled in the past six
years. It seems that the warning is that you need to do a patch test on your
skin every time. So even though you might use the same hair dye all the time,
you still need to do a patch test every time. This is the warning, which has
come out from all this research. So if you use hair dye, then be warned! Some
of us, of course, don’t… haven’t… and won’t!

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good afternoon. Join me tonight
on BBC One at 6.30pm as usual.

Bye for now,

Peter
