Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.
We'll have all the day's news including the story of a man who say's he can't
grieve properly because he's been waiting more than a year for the inquest into
his father's death. We’ll be speaking to him and finding out how he’s been
dealing with this awful ordeal.

Ahead of the start of the new Super League season, we'll have the coaches of
Hull FC and Hull KR live on the sofa. I’ll be talking to them about the year
ahead in Rugby League’s top flight.

And hygiene ratings for Hull restaurants have been published today. You can
find them on the internet. We'll be finding out what they mean, and more
importantly, are they accurate?

We'll also meet the Lincolnshire man training sniffer dogs for the cricket
world cup.

And twenty thousand people die every year from alcohol. We'll be looking at
what is being done to counter the problem in our region. If you have any views
on this or any other issue on the programme we’ll be giving out our contact
details as usual so watch out tonight at the usual time of half past six on BBC
One.

Snow

Disappointment for some I’m sure if you were at school or if you’ve got sledges
and kids, but good news for the rest of us that the snow yesterday didn’t come
as predicted. I don’t know if there’s going to be any today, but as I said,
we’ll have the latest forecast from Paul for the weekend ahead. If you’ve got
something planned this weekend then I hope it goes very well indeed.
And don’t forget if you’re chatting to anybody you know that’s not signed up to
the Levy Letter and they’d like one, then get them to go to one of the two
addresses at the bottom of the page, and get them to click on Levy Letter and
sign up. They’ll get their first daily Levy Letter from me starting on Monday.

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects, we were talking about holding
hands in public yesterday, and the fact that more people who were married for
many years in the fifties and sixties hold hands than people who are newlyweds.
This one from Nancy in Scawby Brook near Brigg…

“My husband and I got married seven years ago and we’re still holding
hands, even though not for all the way through, as we have young boys trying to
hold and swing on our hands too. I’ve noticed the young couples tending to hold
their partner’s hips rather than the hands.”

So there we are, any views on that, or indeed anything else, send them along to

Birthday

Can you believe it, the top visitor attraction in Hull, The Deep, is gearing up
for its fifth birthday. I can’t believe its five years since it opened. I can
remember the opening day as clear as a bell. Its birthday is on March the 23rd,
and the boss Colin Brown, who does so much for the city, has predicted a bright
future for the attraction, saying it could continue to go from strength to
strength. It certainly has, and if you ever see the car park, especially on
weekends and bank holidays, it is just amazing. I drive past it or walk past it
every day, living at Victoria Dock. Anyway, happy birthday to The Deep for next
month.

Diabetes

A pill regulating the blood sugar level of diabetics so they no longer need to
take daily injections is being developed by scientists. This is a big break
through, and one which I’m sure many will be interested in. A chemical which is
found in shrimp shells has been found to help the body absorb insulin, even
when it’s taken orally. There are seven hundred thousand diabetics in the UK
who have to use insulin injections to regulate their blood sugar levels, and
insulin cannot be given by mouth because it’s broken down by the stomach acid
and discarded long before being absorbed into the body. So this is a big break
through if it happens. That’s a pill to regulate the blood sugar levels of
diabetics so they no longer need injections. We’ll continue to follow that
story.

Music

Well it was announced yesterday that rock legends The Who are to shake the
foundations of Hull in the coming months, playing at the KC stadium. It’s been
announced that the group will be there on the Saturday May 26th. The gig is one
of only seven dates in the UK, and comes hot on the heels of the group’s sell
out tour of the US. The band announced the Hull date at a swish bash in Covent
Garden in London yesterday lunchtime. If you’re going, enjoy. It’s Saturday,
May the 26th.

Well that’s it from me today, have a very good afternoon, enjoy your weekend,
and look out for your Levy Letter again on Monday. If you’ve got a problem in
the meantime that you think we can deal with on the programme, then drop me a
line, and if you’ve got a picture that you’ve taken over the weekend that you
think we can show then send it to the usual address [EMAIL PROTECTED] Take
care, bye for now.

Peter
