Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me on BBC One at half past six for
tonight’s Look North. We'll have all the day's news, including a look at
concerns about the power of supermarkets in our region. Louth is to finally get
its first major supermarket, and a new Tesco is due to open in Hull. We’ll hear
from local businesses worried about their futures.

We'll be hearing from a man touring the region to talk about his experiences
after he rescued 15 people from the twin towers in the 2001 terrorist attacks
on New York.

We'll report from a conference in Hull looking at the increase in hate crimes
in Hull and trying to find solutions to combat it. We'll hear from some of the
victims.

We have news on the latest blockbuster film that could be filmed in
Lincolnshire. We’ll tell you all about that on the programme.

We'll have a special report from the opening night of a new play about the life
of Christine Keeler written by Hull playwright Jill Adams. Jill of course was
interviewed by me on the sofa before the play opened, so hopefully it was a big
success.

Of course Paul will have the forecast as well as all the rest of the day’s news
and stories from our region at the usual time tonight at half past six on BBC
One.

Emails

Thanks for your emails on a variety of subjects we’ve talked about this week.
Last night we were talking about facilities in café’s and restaurants for mums
with young babies. If you’ve got a view on that then get in touch. Many of the
subjects that we’ve done on the programme most recently have been generated by
emails. I had one from Deborah who wants to talk about the subject of
facilities in Hull for young mums of babies, and that’s why we did that story.
If you’ve got a story you think we should be tackling on the programme then
drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Kate

Well she may be one of the most beautiful women in the world, but it seems not
even Kate Moss is perfect. She’s been photographed, can you believe, with
nobbly knees – shock horror. The thirty three year old mother of one may wish
she’d have worn something a little bit longer. One of the tabloids has made a
great play of pictures of her nobbly knees. Talking of looking good, I made a
joke yesterday that I might have to have botox, and quite a few people have
emailed in to say that I don’t need it, and don’t even go there because it’s
not a very masculine thing to do. So thanks for the support. I have to differ,
I do need it with the tramlines across my forehead, but maybe I’m not quite
brave enough for botox just yet, but there is time so you never know…

Pictures

Thanks for all the pictures. We had a photograph of a gorgeous sunset last
night taken by someone who works up at St Andrew’s Quay. If you’ve got a
particular photograph that you think we might be able to show on the programme
and you’re proud of, then drop me a line and let me have it. Either send it to
me electronically or send me a hard copy in the post. Either way is just fine.
The postal address of course is BBC, Queen’s Court, Queen’s Gardens, Hull, HU1
3RH. I look forward to hearing from you.

Valentines

Whatever you did last night for Valentine’s day, if you did something special
then I hope it went well. It’s reckoned that the average person spends £93 on
Valentine’s day. I think that most people would beg to differ on that, unless
you went out for a meal last night, which probably cost you.

Diet

Anyone who’s kept up a strict new year’s resolution diet will be feeling pretty
smug by now, but high calorie disaster could only be hours away. Experts have
discovered that dieting actually increases women’s cravings for forbidden foods
like chocolate. They needed research to tell you this? So the temptation to dip
into a Valentine’s present could easily be overwhelming it seems this week. The
love-hate relationship with chocolate is laid bare in this research. They
showed 85 women a series of images of chocolate and non food products. The
researchers then asked them to complete an attitude to chocolate questionnaire.
Surprise surprise, two thirds of the women were dieting or had dieted in the
past, including 15% who’d been on seven or more diets.
The results revealed that dieters had greater feelings of guilt about chocolate
than non-dieters, supporting the idea that they had stronger cravings. There we
are, news just in, woman on diet has craving for chocolate. I’ve never heard so
much rubbish in all my life, but somebody somewhere has done some research on
that.

Marathon

I know many people are getting in training for the marathon, I know at least
one of my friends here is doing the London marathon. I’m reading a book about
Paula Radcliffe. Less than a fortnight after giving birth, she was on the run
again. Her daughter Isla was born on January 17th after a 27 hour labour.
After all that, 12 days after giving birth, she’s back on the road again and
training. Can you believe that? Paula Radcliffe is 33, she’ll be moving into a
training camp in Colorado at the end of this month with her mother Pat joining
her for baby sitting duties. There she will be getting ready for the long term.
Her timetable includes the Beijing Olympics next year, and also London in 2012.

Well that’s it from me at the moment, have a very good afternoon, join me
tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Peter
