Hello it’s Peter here, and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well, and you’ll be able to join me tonight at half past six for
tonight’s Look North. We’ll have all the day’s news, and Paul will have the
forecast...

Coming up tonight, we’ll have the police investigation into the suspicious
death of a woman in Bridlington.

We look at another new initiative to stop graffiti on our streets. There have
been a few schemes targeting young people lately. Anybody remember the mosquito
siren?

Prince Charles is in our region to visit RAF Waddington. This is his first
visit to RAF Waddington since he flew out of it to Scotland in 1979 apparantly.

We’ll be at the funeral of Hull Rugby Legend, Peter "Flash" Flanagan.

We’ll also meet the former Status Quo drummer campaigning for the deaf. His
years behind the Status Quo drum kit have irreparably damaged his hearing. No
jokes please about the effects of listening to Status Quo…

And a British legend, or a load of rubbish? We visit the museum that's paid
good money to restore an Austin Allegro to it’s former ‘glory’.

Yesterday

Well you got through it! If you were feeling particularly down and fed up
yesterday then it was Blue Monday - the experts say the unhappiest day of the
entire year. Christmas bills, failed new year’s resolutions, and nasty weather
combined to make yesterday the gloomiest day in the calendar. The good news is
that we got through it and we are onwards and upwards! The evenings are
starting to get that little bit lighter as well. It stays light now until about
4:25 in the afternoon, so things are getting better. We’re through the worst
day of the year.

Babies

Women are paying £2,500 for a baby planner to take care of the organisational
aspects of having a child. It means they can hand over the task of choosing a
pushchair, a pregnancy class, and even a nanny to another woman. The service is
growing in popularity amongst those with busy working lives who have little
time to prepare for baby’s arrival. It all seems a bit clinical, doesn’t it?
It’s something called Baby Planners, which describes itself as an all-embracing
service for women expecting their first baby. All the work is done by somebody
else, all you’ve got to have is two and a half thousand pounds. I’m sure
that’ll be a big hit in Hull and surrounding districts. Not.

Weather

Paul of course will have the weather forecast tonight, and there’ll be weather
updates on BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire throughout the day,
but according to one of the tabloids, winter will finally arrive this week with
temperatures going as low as -9 degrees Celsius. Do we believe what the
tabloids say about weather? Well as I told you a few weeks back, Paul told me
that the tabloids have told the Met office that if they put a weather story on
the front page, they sell an awful lot more papers. So there’s no surprise why
they like the old weather stories. As I say, Paul will have the full weather
forecast tonight at half past six.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a nice weather picture, or a nice sunset or
anything really that you think would be good to show on the programme then do
get in touch at the usual address [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Australian Breakfast

We’ve got a great charity event coming up, which I hope you can get involved
with. It’s called the Great Australian Breakfast and it’s on the morning of
Sunday 28th January. It starts at 8.30 in the morning, and all the proceeds go
to lots of very deserving charities in Lincolnshire. It’s a barbeque style
breakfast, and it’s held at The Lawns in Lincoln. Have you ever been to the
Lawns? Well, it’s a lovely place. It’s up at the top of the hill in Lincoln,
very close to the Castle walls. It’s a very relaxing place up there and some
spectacular views of the city of Lincoln can be found from just down the road.
It is definitely worth climbing up the steep hill in the city for that. So pop
along to the Great Australian Breakfast on the morning of Sunday 28th January.
I’ll be there and so will the presenters from BBC Radio Lincolnshire. I hope to
be able to meet you there!

Bankrupt

Thousands of women are advised to declare themselves bankrupt, but refuse to
because they’re too ashamed, according to a new study. Their reluctance to
tackle their debt in this way leaves them facing even greater problems. The
Consumer Credit Counselling service says that many of those who they recommend
to go bankrupt are women. Three quarters of these are single. However, more
than half refuse, seeing it as a sign of shame and failure to go bankrupt. I
think you can understand that. Many of the older women have been plunged into
sudden financial crisis by the break up of a relationship or job loss. The
average debt of those recommended to declare themselves bankrupt – and you
always think it must be a huge sum – is £30,293. That was made up mainly of
credit card borrowing, and loans and overdrafts.

Sat Nav Theft

Thieves are stealing satellite navigation systems from cars so that they can
burgle the owner’s house while they’re out, according to the Police. Criminals
take the gadgets from vehicles parked in public places, and use details stored
on them to find out the owner’s address. They then burgle the house, knowing
that the owner is likely to be out with their car of course. Yesterday, the
police urged motorists to wipe their details from satellite navigation systems.
They’re warning motorists to be on their guard. What’s interesting is that I
didn’t even know that you had to put your home details on the sat nav system,
but the advice from police is don’t do it.

Well that’s it from me today. Don’t forget, if you’ve got a story that you
think we might like to use on the programme, or that would make interesting
viewing, or one that we might not know about, then drop me a line and give me
the details. If you’ve got a problem that you think we might be able to deal
with on Leave it to Levy, then the address as usual is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks
for reading, enjoy your afternoon, and join us tonight for Look North at half
past six on BBC One.

Bye for now.

Peter
