Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Thursdays Levy Letter. I hope your day is going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past six as usual. I'll have all the day's news from around the region and Paul will have the forecast.
On tonight's programme, as part of our NHS Big Check Up series, find out how medical treatment is being brought closer to patients homes or even in some cases into their homes. Last night we brought you the story of a man, who travelled to Hungary to repair his teeth. And that prompted many emails from people saying that theyd travelled abroad to have treatment for medical conditions too. So thank you very much indeed for all of those. Keep the emails coming in if youve got a story about the NHS. This morning, I got an answer phone message from Jenny Starkey from Lincolnshire. She says, Im a voluntary chaplaincy lay visitor at Lincoln County hospital and this means that I go onto Johnson Ward, which is the heart ward, every Wednesday afternoon and I talk to as many patients as I can. And nearly, without exception, all patients say that they get very well looked after. They have no complaints and they all say that they cant fault the staff this includes the doctors, t! he nurses and the cleaning ladies. They cant speak highly enough for the care they get. The staff cant do enough for them. So that was an answer phone message left on our hotline number letting us know about the care given to patients in the Johnson Ward at Lincoln County hospital as experienced by Jenny Starkey. So thank you Jenny for getting in touch with us, its much appreciated. Keep your thoughts about the NHS coming in email [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also tonight on the programme, well be in court to get the story of the doctor, who endangered patients' lives by still continuing to practise despite contracting hepatitis. Well have the latest on this. Well be finding out why thieves have stopped villagers in one small Lincolnshire village from using their outdoor swimming pool. And we'll be out on the streets to see what residents in Lincoln think of the city's latest piece of public art. So if youre out and about in Lincoln today, take a look at the big face thats now up at the Drill Hall in Lincoln. Take a peep at that new pieces of art and email us in and let me know what you think about it. Do you like it? Email me today on [EMAIL PROTECTED] And Ill have a very special guest tonight. I'll be meeting Ivy Naylor, the pensioner, who's become an unlikely style guru after appearing in a book about homes. Thats all tonight on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me then. Emails As Ive said, thanks for all the emails this week. Weve had a lot of response to stories that weve done on the programme. And Ive also had emails on the subject of home education and teaching children at home. Its a growing trend and we were talking about it last night on the programme. So thank you for those! If youve got a problem or an issue that you think we might be able to tackle on your behalf on the programme, then drop me a line. Give me the details and let me know and also a contact telephone number as well. We heard this week, exclusively from people emailing me direct, about the redundancies at Skeltons bakeries. Thank you for those. And if youre a staff member at Skeltons, then please keep in touch with us and let us know how youre feeling about the redundancies there. And its wonderful when youre able to think of us first to let us know about stories that are affecting you, so thank you for those. Let me know of anything that you think we should be loo! king at for the programme. Drop me a line to [EMAIL PROTECTED] And pass the word around! And dont forget, if you know someone, who's not signed up to the Levy Letter, and you think they would like one, then get them to go to our new website. Click on Levy Letter and tell them to sign up. Its been revamped, so take a look at www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. You can find all the details about the programme and our new feature where you can watch the programme again in full or even just little snippets from the show. So take a look at that and let me know what you think about it! America Anyone reading the Levy Letter, whos off to America shortly or is thinking about going to America, then this is of interest to you. Britons off to the States are celebrating at the moment after the value of the pound against the dollar hit a fifteen year high. What does that mean you might say? Well, let me give you some examples of the difference in cost in some items. Here, if you want to buy a Justin Timberlake CD, then it would be £9.99. It would be £4.98 in the States at the moment. A camera costing £249 here, would be £169 there. Another one here, a pair of branded, well-known jeans would be £60 here, but just £17.45 in America. Just incredible isnt it? And a pair of trainers selling for £64 here would be £34.98 over there. And just finally, all the items like Ipods and MP3 players are all far cheaper over there as well. So if youve got tickets booked, then look out for some great bargains. Enjoy the shopping! And make sure youve got some space in your suitcase! An! d make sure you have your cheque book with you. Not that you can use your cheque book in many places now. Yet another high street retailer, a well-known pharmacy, has banned customers from paying by cheques. They no longer accept them in its one thousand five hundred stores across the country and thats from the 1st May. More and more of high street shops now will not accept cheques. And I hadnt realised this until I read about it in the papers. We tend to pay by our Switch cards a lot now, but cheques are on the way out! Ioan While Daniel Craig is still basking in his critical acclaim as the new James Bond, the Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd isnt ruling out taking over from him one day. The star of Amazing Grace (he played William Wilberforce and I had the pleasure of meeting him in Hull recently) has admitted that he is slightly built and says that he will have to start working out to match the thirty-nine year old Daniel Craig and his manly physique. But he says that he wouldnt mind playing James Bond! By the way, do you know how old Ioan is? Hes actually thirty-three. Talking of celebs, one of the judges in ITVs Grease Is The Word is the odd looking David Gest. David says, and I quote, that people thought, when I went into Im A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here that I must be some sort of wuss. As you saw, I will take on any animal or any person or any thing. By the way, at the moment, David Gest is allegedly, according to the papers, going out with Malandra Burrows! Hobbies Dont forget, if youve got an unusual hobby or youve got a hobby that you think would make an interesting article for the programme, then let me know. We were talking about Flat Cap throwing last night and the Flat Cap championships at Fridaythorpe are on their way. I see that wrinkly rocker Bill Wyman these days is a metal detector fan. He spends a lot of his time wandering around in an old anorak and trousers looking like an elderly gentlemen, although I suppose he is an elderly gentleman at seventy. Hes famous for marrying nineteen year old model Mandy Smith when he was fifty-two. But now he devotes much of his time trying to find rather older treasures these days in the form of old relics. There you are. Even the wild man of rock, Bill Wyman, spends his time as a heavy metal fan with his metal detector! Well, that's it from me for now. Thanks very much indeed for being there and enjoy your Thursday afternoon. Join me tonight if you can on BBC One at half past six.
