Hello, it's Peter here. Welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day's
going well and you'll be able to join me tonight for the last Look North of the
week on BBC One at half past six. We'll have all the day's news and stories
from this part of the world as usual.

All this week we've been looking at the state of our NHS. Tonight we have a
special debate on the way forward for our region's heath services.

We'll also be finding out how the health care of a woman in Boston,
Lincolnshire, differs from a woman from Boston in America. That should be a
fascinating comparison.

We'll have the latest on the Paul Cook saga over whether he'll move across the
city. This means an awful lot to a lot of people around here of course, and
we’ll be bringing you the latest news.

We'll be investigating new claims that east coast beaches, including Skegness,
are dirtier than ever.

We have a special report on a campaign to save a local landmark from vandals.

And we'll meet the Spalding teenager who could soon be the country's youngest
ever councillor!

Paul will have the weekend forecast, hopefully the weather’s going to improve.

Marathon

It’s a busy weekend for things in our region, and outside our region of course
it is the London Marathon. One local lad running in the Marathon this year is
David Prescott, you might guess from his name that he’s the son of our local
Hull East MP John Prescott. He’s running to support the Spinal Injuries
Association, and if you want to support him by donating then go to his website
at http://www.justgiving.com/davefromhull. You can give him a donation online
through that website.

And also from Look North and Radio Humberside, our own Della Parsons who works
here will be running along with local girl Victoria Walsh to raise money for
the eight lifeboat stations in our region. We’ve already raised lots of money
as part of our appeal, and we could always do with more so if you want to
support Della and Victoria in the run, and raise money for our vital lifeboats
then go to the BBC Humber web page at www.bbc.co.uk/humber, click on Making
Waves, then on Team Making Waves, and you’ll find information on how you can
make a valuable contribution.

Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope it goes very well indeed. I
mentioned on the programme last night that a great day out is Burton Constable
Hall. I say that but I haven’t actually been there yet, but I will now. I’ve
joked several times on the air that they only sent me one ticket. Well this
morning a letter arrived from the top man, the Director of Burton Constable
Hall, Dr David Connell who’s sent me four tickets. So I’m looking forward to
going. They’ve also got an excellent sculpture trail there as well. So whatever
you’re doing this weekend, enjoy, and I hope it goes extremely well.

The Producers

The big hit musical show The Producers is on in Manchester at the moment, and
it stars Peter Kay. The actress who plays opposite him is Yorkshire’s very own
Emma Jayne Appleyard. Emma spends a good deal of time with her mum and dad at
their caravan in Withernsea when she’s not on stage mixing with the luvvies.
Speaking of the theatre, it’s just been announced that after all these years of
being on TV, there’s going to be a stage show version of Dad’s Army. Sadly,
most of the original cast are no longer with us, but the star of the show was
of course the gruff and bumbling Captain Mainwaring played by the superb Arthur
Lowe. Well in this new stage version, the part is going to be played by an
actor from just across the water, Barton on Humber. He is Peter Martin, who for
the last few years of course has been playing Len in Emmerdale. He’s a good
friend of ours here on Look North and Radio Humberside. He was recently one of
the judges at Radio Humberside’s fundraising event St!
ars in Their Eyes, and he was one of the guests on An Evening With Peter Levy
back in November at the Hull Truck Theatre. It’s some achievement to land the
part of Captain Mainwaring, and we wish all the very best to Peter and hope it
goes well for him. It’s a great story, well done to Peter.

Colours

Top colours for cars, what do you think the most popular colour was last year?
Well silver was the most popular colour, black was second, blue was third, grey
was forth, and red was fifth. The most unpopular colour, the one that is
hardest to sell second hand is a white one would you believe.

Tea

Drinking just two cups of tea a day could slash the risks of skin cancer
according to new research. Scientists found that those who enjoyed a regular
cuppa are at least 65% less likely to get certain types of skin tumours. And of
course in a few weeks time we’ve been told that both tea and coffee are now
good for us, despite some of the things we’ve been told over the last few years.

Emails

Don’t forget if you’ve got a story or a subject that you think we should know
about, or a problem you think we can deal with on the programme then drop me a
line and give me the details, and don’t forget to give me the telephone number
as well. The address as usual, and for any photographs you want to send the
show is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Daisy Appeal

I had an email yesterday from Sue who’s organised a charity fund raiser for The
Daisy Appeal. If you don’t know, The Daisy Appeal is trying to raise £6.5
million to build the Hull and East Yorkshire Medical Research and Teaching
centre at Castle Hill hospital in Cottingham near Hull. They’ve already managed
to raise £5.5 million from the community and Sue writes in to say

“I have organised a charity fund raiser on Saturday 5th May at the Piper Club
in Hull. We are having two live bands, ‘All Mod Cons’ who are a Jam tribute
band, and ‘My Friend Stan’ who are a great party band. We also have a northern
soul disco.
Tickets are £5 and can be bought from the Piper Club either before or on the
night. People can also contact me on my mobile number 07951788033 for either
tickets or further information.
We had a similar fund raiser in November and raised over £1000 for this
extremely worthy appeal.”

Well that sounds like a lot of fun, and if you can make it to the Piper Club
it’s all for a worthy cause.

Well that’s it from me today, whatever you’re doing this weekend, enjoy it.
Have a very good weekend, and if there’s somebody you know who’s not getting a
levy letter and you think they’d like one then point them in the direction of
the two addresses at the bottom of the page or just go to
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull, come to our new revamped Look North website, click
on Levy Letter, sign up, and they’ll get their first and daily Levy Letter from
me starting on Monday. Take care, bye for now.

Peter
