Hello there and welcome to today’s Levy Letter. Lots of emails and messages
have come in to let us know that digital and satellite viewers of the programme
last night weren’t able to watch us. Well, many thanks for those. We’re trying
to get in touch with each and everyone of you, who have got in touch with us to
apologise. Obviously, you all know that I’m fairly technologically clueless
about things like that, but I’ve been told that our digital equipment in Leeds
failed last night and took us off air. Our engineers in Leeds worked really
hard to fix this for us whilst we were on air, but weren’t able to. Everything
is now sorted and we’re back as normal for today’s bulletins throughout the
day.

On tonight’s programme, after another motorcyclist is killed on Lincolnshire's
roads, we'll be talking to the man, who organises Lincolnshire's biking events
about how to get the road safety message through to the minority of reckless
bikers. Plus we'll have the latest footage to show the scale of the problem in
our area.

And it's a big night for Bridlington as they hope to win a coveted tourism
award. Hannah Moffat will be live in the resort tonight finding out what locals
and visitors think of the town.

Plus we'll be in Grantham today where the country's first intelligent multi
storey car park is about to open, which can even tell you where to drive to get
a space!

And could you imagine living in a Travelodge for more than twenty years? Well,
one couple have done just that and we hope to talk to them today. And Paul will
have the forecast for us as usual. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past
six.

And I think I need some of these. Onions, whilst perhaps not being good for the
breath, are apparently brilliant for improving your memory recall! The
researchers on this one are from Japan and have been doing tests on people
suffering from memory loss and eating onions has helped them with their memory
recall. Not only might these results help people do their morning crosswords,
but it’ll have huge effects in the fight against diseases like Alzheimer’s and
Parkinson’s. Here’s the technical bit – the antioxidants in onions join with
harmful toxins in the brain and flushes them out of our system, so improving
our brain power. But it’s bad news for the breath though as they must be eaten
raw or only cooked on a low heat as over cooked onions lose their memory
helping properties. So munch on some raw onion whilst doing your daily
crossword to improve your memory recall abilities!

And it’s a well done to Kelly Osbourne, who made her West End debut as Mama
Morton in Chicago. I think that many people find it quite difficult to like
Kelly’s brash persona. I think the phrase you either love her or hate her
springs to mind, but she’s certainly doing very well for herself. She’s been
presenting Project Catwalk on ITV2 and Turning Japanese for BBC Three and now
she’s treading the boards. She’s just twenty-two and has also been unveiled as
the new agony aunt for a BBC Radio One show. So she’s doing well for herself.
Break a leg to Kelly as she becomes the youngest actress to play Mama Morton in
the West End.

And just finally, I read today that the Body Shop founder, Dame Anita Roddick,
has died at the age of sixty-four. I’m sure many of us can remember all the
campaigning she did with her range of cosmetics, which were against animal
testing and championed causes like human rights, HIV and Third World debt. I
remember actually back in the late seventies when the Body Shop was just
starting and her messages about animal testing were really hard hitting. No one
else was doing anything like that at all, so she was very much a pioneer. So
best wishes to Anita’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Well, that's it from me. Have a very good day and join me tonight at half past
six.

Peter
