Welcome back after the Bank Holiday weekend. It wasn’t the scorcher we were
hoping for, but at least there was no rain to dampen our BBQs! So I’m back for
another week of Levy Letters and for Look North. There’s one not to miss
tonight! Find out how one Hull motorist hopes to overturn his parking fine,
which could have serious implications for the whole of the parking system in
Hull. I’ll have the full story on this tonight and what it means for people
parking in the city!

Also tonight, after a terrible day of accidents on the roads over the Bank
Holiday weekend, we'll be asking if the road safety message is getting through
to Lincolnshire's motorists.

And whether your music taste is classical or rock, we'll have something for you
tonight on the programme. We'll be following the region's unsigned bands,
including The Talks from Hull and The Idlers from Lincolnshire as they perform
at Leeds festival. Plus we'll be discovering the romance of chamber music
across the region. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six. I hope you
can join me then.

And I see that there are fears that our children aren’t getting enough sleep. I
remember hating having to go to bed early as a child, especially when it was
still sunny outside during the summer. But nowadays, kids aren’t wanting to run
outside and play until all hours of the night, they’re wanting to switch on the
TV and play computer games. Researchers say that one in three children are
surviving on as little as four hours a night and are turning up at school
absolutely exhausted. Experts are also warning parents that lack of sleep is
linked to weight gain, with teens craving sugary or high fat foods as they
battle to keep their eye lids open. And I certainly wasn’t that privileged when
I was little, but kids nowadays say that 99% of them have a phone, music system
or TV in their bedroom! So are you a parent, and do you know if your children
are staying up late at night? Are they difficult to wake up in the morning? And
if you’re a teacher in schools, then do you notice mo!
re and more of our teenagers finding it difficult to stay awake in class?
Well, surely that’s nothing new is it! Anyway, it’s the normal email address of
[EMAIL PROTECTED] if you want to get in touch.

With these latest education results out for A-levels and GCSEs, researchers are
seeing certain trends again in university applications. With all the pressure
on universities amid concerns that our students are getting into huge debt
whilst studying, all eyes on the education establishments to see if
applications drop. Well, no news on that just yet, but I read that boys are
apparently turning their backs on higher education believing that it’s who you
know and not what you know! One in three boys said that they do not intend to
go to university, because they “do not enjoy learning”! Well, that’s not rocket
science I’m sure! Most kids don’t like learning do they?

And yet another technology story here. I’ve heard about this wireless broadband
that lots of people can get now in their homes. That means that they can
connect to the internet no matter where they are in their home, even in the
garden. However, this also means, if your signal is strong enough, that you can
access the internet on the road outside your house too, or if you live close
enough, you can connect through your neighbour’s connection. Well, this news is
being seen as a milestone case - A man, who was spotted in the street using his
laptop to access the internet through someone else’s wireless internet
connection has been arrested. He was questioned by some community support
officers and the man, who was sitting on a wall outside a home in Chiswick,
admitted that he was nicking a wireless internet connection to browse online.
So if you see anyone sitting on your wall outside your home with a laptop, then
he could be up to something illegal possibly! What I thought was!
interesting though, was that here’s an example of a crime, that didn’t really
exist that long ago when wireless internet was extremely rare in households.

Well, that's it from me for now. Please get in touch with me this week, if
there’s anything going on in your lives that you want to share with the Levy
Letter readers. If there’s a problem happening where you live and it’s
affecting yourself or your friends and family, then get in touch and let me
know. Perhaps I could help! As always, keep in touch to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Have a very good day and join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Peter
