Hi there, it’s Peter here. It’s the last day of the week and as always, we’ve
got a busy programme to finish up. It’s a go for take off as BAE at Brough
confirm plans to reopen their runway to allow aircraft to once more fly in and
out of the factory. We'll be getting the reaction of local residents to this
news.

And emotions are high amongst staff and managers - we'll be getting the latest
on the future of Bridlington hospital following the plans to cut acute services
at the site.

Plus he's been told to move on - we'll be speaking to the Boston busker, who
the local council says is too repetitive with his songs.

And is our region in a moral decline? I’m sure you’ve got a view on this. I'll
be speaking to a local Bishop after a BBC survey claims that manners are now a
thing of the past.

It’s a busy weekend of events. We'll be live in Cleethorpes tonight as the
resort launches this year's jazz festival. And they may be the bane of your
life, but Europe's biggest trade show of caravans opens in Cottingham today and
we'll be finding out what's the hottest tourer this year!

Lots of students will be heading off to University shortly, but I read today
some worrying news for graduates. Apparently, surveys are showing that there’s
been a huge increase in the number of graduates joining the workforce, which is
actually devaluing their degrees. The report has shown that male graduates in
arts and humanities subjects are now earning no more than those, who left
education after their A Levels. At the moment, there’s pressure on the
Government to increase the number of students taking on further education,
which at the moment is down at about 43% and their aim is to increase it to
over 50%. Questions are whether they should promote further education, if at
the end of the course there’s no guarantee of a better paid job for graduates
compared with A-level students. So big decisions for our students at the
moment. Would do you reckon to this one? Do you think a degree gives you better
opportunities for work? It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I look forward to hearing from you.

And talking of education, this one is concerning as well for parents. Standards
of reading, writing and maths amongst seven year olds are in a long term
decline. The Government has ploughed a massive £21 billion into preschool
provisions for children, but the latest national curriculum results show a fall
in the number of children aged seven mastering basic writing skills and have
seen no improvements in reading, speaking, listening, maths or science. These
results are showing a steady decline since 2001. If you’re a parent, what do
you think about these latest figures?

And I read that the best way to make money is to tarmac your driveway and rent
it out! The housing market may be unstable at the moment and interest rates may
be rising putting off many potential buy-to-let house buyers, but here’s one
idea to make your wallet bulge. Your driveway could be the answer to your
problems if you hire it out as a parking space. Companies are springing up that
match up employees with homeowners and they promise to make the driveway work
hard for its money possibly earning you up to £5000 a year. All you have to do
is allow a stranger to park in your driveway during working hours. This is big
news for employees, who are often on the desperate search to find a car parking
space in busy urban areas and these offers can help them avoid congestion
charges, on-street restrictions, vandalism and extremely high parking charges.
So perhaps you should start looking after your driveway by removing the weeds,
sprucing up the tarmac, because I read that people !
are now renting them out as parking spaces!

And finally, I’m sure this is one award they really don’t want to win. David
and Victoria Beckham have been nominated for an award called the ‘Funniest
Double Act’. Of course, they’re up against stand up comedians like Alan Carr
and Justin Lee Collins from Channel 4’s ‘The Friday Night Project’ and David
Mitchell and Robert Webb from ‘Peep Show’. I’m sure that’s not on the Beckham’s
list of awards they’d most like to win!

That’s it from me. Have a lovely weekend and I’ll be back with the Levy Letter
on Monday.

Take care,

Peter
