Hi there, welcome to another week with Look North. Our reporters are donning
their wellies and waterproofs and heading out today as the weather continues to
cause worries for local homeowners. As the situation changes minute by minute
across the region, we'll be reporting live tonight on just what has unfolded in
the areas most at risk of flooding. We'll find out what's in store with the
weather in our area and how this is impacting on homeowners and on our
transport links. As the extreme weather warning continues, we’ll get the latest
on what this means for you, so tune in tonight to get the full rundown. And if
you want to keep up to date throughout the day, then your local BBC radio
stations will be on the air – BBC Radio Humberside on 95.9FM and BBC Radio
Lincolnshire on 94.9 or 104.7FM. And keep your cameras with you! We want to see
your photos of the weather where you are and evidence of flooding. So take a
few snaps for us and send them into us. It’s the usual email a!
ddress of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to seeing your snaps.

Also tonight on the programme, as an East Yorkshire MP raises concerns over
high cost phone numbers for GP surgeries, we'll be investigating just how much
you could end up paying just to book a doctor's appointment.

Plus we'll have a full round up of all the weekend's sport including looking at
Scunthorpe United's increasingly perilous position in the table.

And don’t I know it! It's officially the most depressing day of the year. Did
you look out of the window this morning and feel glum? We'll find out how
you're coping on this blue Monday and what your top tips are for staying happy.
That’s all on BBC One at half past six as usual. I hope you can join me.

Heirlooms

Do you remember that brilliant ‘Only Fools And Horses’ episode when Del Boy and
Rodney finally realise that some old painting they’ve had on their walls for
years is really a priceless heirloom? I certainly wish I had a Ming vase or two
lying about at home. Here’s a story though to make you jealous. A cracked 19th
century French claret jug went for just a little more than expected at an
auction recently. It was estimated to fetch a couple of hundred pounds, but
actually went for a thousand times its guide price. And perhaps the draw for
bidders was not actually the jug, but the box it came in! The jug came in a
special box, which the bidders thought came from a very famous French
goldsmith. And they believed the box was so valuable that instead of paying the
estimated £200, one persistent bidder paid £220,000. Isn’t that incredible!

Tractors

Here’s a bizarre crime story for you. Tractors are the latest target in Britain
by crooks! Police believe an international criminal gang could be making
millions by nicking top-of-the-range tractors, smuggling them abroad and
selling them on. To be honest, I had no idea how much a tractor cost nowadays,
so I was amazed to read this. Tractors can cost between £63,000 to £75,000 or a
top-spec tractor about £100,000. And how on earth do they smuggle them out of
the country? You can’t really drive a tractor onto a cross-Channel ferry
without being noticed can you?

Property Prices

Here we are worrying about house prices falling across the country, but someone
forgot to tell this house buyer! This luxury mansion is in London and it sold
last week for £50 million pounds! Wow! The new homeowner for this luxury pad is
a billionaire from Kazakhstan. And he’ll have some high-rolling neighbours as
well, including the Sultan of Brunei and the Saudi Arabian royal family. I
think I would have liked to have pretended to be a billionaire, so I could be
shown around this house as a prospective buyer. It sits in two acres of garden,
which in London must come at a price! It’s main ‘salon’ is eighty foot long
with a thirty foot dining table! I’d feel a bit lonely at that table with my
microwaveable meal for one! The house also includes a Turkish bath that can
accommodate twenty people. And there are four separate kitchens. Now, I’m all
for a bit of luxury at home, but why on earth would you need four kitchens? The
new owner fancies some home improvements though to in!
clude a beauty salon, spa, heliport, cinema and a squash court. Well you would
wouldn’t you? The owner, according to the estate agents, apparently thinks it’s
quite a reasonable amount to pay for a house like that.

That’s it from me. Take care today and keep in touch with me about any problems
you’re facing with the bad weather.

Peter
