Hi there, it’s Peter here. Tonight on the programme, we'll take a look at the
concerns in the classroom as an East Riding teacher is given a suspended
sentence despite pleading guilty to sex offences with a pupil. We'll be
investigating why this is the third case of its kind in the county.

Also tonight, we'll be on flood watch and will be hearing from the streets in
Burstwick, who are preparing for more flood misery this weekend.

Plus we'll be hearing from the vagrants living in tents on a Skegness green,
who have been asked to move on by the council.

And we'll meet the Leven man with a unique wood carving business from his
garage. That’s on BBC One at half past six.

And of course Paul will have the forecast for us for the weekend. I’m sure
there are a lot of homeowners anxiously waiting for an update on the weather
for the next few days. Thanks for all the emails you’ve been sending in. Here’s
one from Mike. He says, “I cannot believe the stupidity of some people – my
house is in a flood hit area and we are still awaiting our insurers to commence
work on repairs. Our next door neighbour is already having repairs carried out
and whilst visiting my property yesterday I saw one of the building workers
pouring a bucket of plaster down the drain immediately outside the house. It
was the blocked drains, which caused the devastation to our house in the first
instance and it was myself and a neighbour who unblocked them. This
irresponsible behaviour by builders carrying out repairs is going to cause all
sorts of problems in the future. What do you think?” Thanks Mike for that and
do you want to answer him? What do you think about the floods and!
why it’s happening again? Keep in touch with me today about this. As I say,
we’ll be speaking to the many homeowners tonight on the programme, who are on
flood watch this weekend. And if your home is flooded for the second time or if
you can see the water edging ever closer to your home or if a drain near you is
blocked up with lots of rubbish, then take a few photographs for me or even get
your video camera out and become a cameraman for the day! Take some shots and
send them to us. We’d love to hear how the weather is affecting where you live.
I think there are some lucky people, who haven’t been affected this time
around, but I know there are many others, who are, so let me know. It’s the
usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] to get in touch with me.

Getting Wet

Earlier in the week, I mentioned an email sent in by Tanya. She had got
absolutely soaked by an inconsiderate driver splashing her and her children
with water from a puddle. Sheila wrote in to tell me about something she’d seen
on a motoring website, where it said that “driving through water at speeds
above a slow crawl can result in water being thrown onto pavements, soaking
pedestrians or cyclists. You could face a hefty fine and between three and nine
penalty points if the police believe you were driving without reasonable
consideration to other road users.” Ah, so there you go! Thanks Sheila for
letting us know. All drivers should be warned then to drive respectfully when
the roads are wet! Thanks Sheila.

Amazon

Did you watch that BBC programme, ‘The Tribe’, when it was on? That’s with the
explorer, Bruce Parry, who travels around the world meeting some of the oldest
living tribes and finding out about their way of life. It’s really fascinating,
especially because Bruce seems to be completely unafraid of trying anything new
and he’ll join in with any of these tribes’ somewhat extreme traditions and
rituals. Anyway, if you liked that programme, then I’ve heard of a new
programme, that you might quite like too. It’s with Bruce Parry again and he’ll
be travelling along the Amazon river and meeting the people, who live on its
banks. He’s posting a blog already on his website as they are all out there
filming now, so take a look if you’re interested on bbc.co.uk/amazon. Or wait
for the programme, which is due on our TV screens this year.

Cops

Any female police officers out there reading this Letter? There’s a story that
I noticed in the papers, that female police officers aren’t happy about their
uniform. They say that the regulation black trousers they are forced to wear
are very unflattering to their bottoms! This sounds like a clip from ‘The Fast
Show.’ Can you remember that show? “Does my bottom look big in this?”
Criticisms of the slacks are that they are too high waisted, which cover up all
their curves and they are far too bulky, which impedes them running after
criminals. Lots of female police officers are wearing men’s trousers, because
they fit better. They’re also concerned about the stab vests they have to wear,
which are, apparently, very uncomfortable for women with larger chest sizes. So
female police officers are unhappy with their uniform – that’s according to a
story out at the moment.

That’s it from me. I hope you stay safe over the weekend, despite the weather.

Take care,

Peter
