Good afternoon, its Peter here. With the heavy rain and flood warnings issued overnight, Look North will have the latest on how the emergency services coped with the threat of a repeat of last summer's flooding. Well have the latest on this.
And could North Lincolnshire's mayor find himself out of a job tonight after a vote of no confidence. Our political editor, Tim Iredale, will be taking a look at the row over the way public money has been spent in the authority. And heres a favourite of mine! It was the longest running musical on Broadway, but now Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats is coming to Hull. As it opens tonight, we'll be back stage before the first performance. Thats on BBC One at half past six as usual. Big Brother Is Watching Obviously at Look North we all work incredibly hard, so we wouldnt need this!! But the IT software giant, Microsoft, is developing Big Brother type software, which can monitor a workers productivity, physical wellbeing and competence. Oh dear! Thats me gone then! A patent has been filed by the company for a piece of software that remotely connects to the PC and measures workers metabolisms. Now this seems quite scary. From the metabolism measures, managers can check on their employees heart rate, body temperature, movement, facial expressions and blood pressure. Sounds like a step too far? I remember seeing things like this in that film with Tom Hanks Apollo 13. Astronauts are regularly monitored to keep tabs on their health whilst on flying missions, but that seems like fairly necessary when theyre under so much pressure. Although Im sure our reporters and producers are under quite a bit of stress in the newsroom, but probably not as much as those astronauts and ! perhaps not enough to monitor their heart rate and body temperature!! What do you reckon to this then? An infringement of human rights perhaps? I think this would terrify me though. As you know, Im not very technologically minded. I can just about send an email and type a letter, but thats about it. So this would freak me out I think. This system would automatically detect frustration and stress and then offer assistance accordingly. Can you imagine if your computer started telling you to calm down! Giant Rats Im not a fan of these animals and the thought of the possibility that giant rats once roamed the earth fills me with revulsion! But its probably true. A fossilised skull of a rat the size of a car has been unearthed! Unbelievable! Imagine walking into that in the centre of Hull! Luckily though, the creature lived about four million years ago and was a vegetarian! It probably lived mainly in the water, like a hippopotamus. Because it was so big, the water would help reduce the stress put on its bones. What made me chuckle was that these scientists have nicknamed it Mighty Mouse! An understatement I think! Sympathy I think we can all sympathise with this poor lady. Tanya emailed in to us. She writes, Today my double buggy with my two year old and four month old and I got soaked in a complete tidal wave from a black Corsa speeding through a flooded Manor Road. We were completely covered and the car did not stop to say sorry or to check we were ok. A car on the other side did stop and check on us. This was very nice of the people. Please can you highlight on your show for people to be more considerate of walkers. Quite right! Thanks Tanya for letting us know and thanks to those kind drivers, who stopped to check on her! Well, that's it from me. Join me tonight if you can at half past six.
