Hi there, it’s Peter here. On the programme tonight, we'll be speaking to a
local MEP as he calls on the EU to act on the power companies over claims that
they are unfairly raising their prices. This is still an issue affecting lots
of people across our region and emails are still being sent to me describing
the problems that you’re facing, especially in villages which aren’t connected
to the mainline gas pipes. So we’ll find out what this MEP plans to do about
it.

Plus six months on after the June floods, we'll hear how one local NHS Trust is
helping patients suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after seeing
their homes and belongings wrecked by water.

Find out how Hull's ice hockey stars are helping Hull Royal Infirmary to tackle
killer bugs like MRSA and C Difficile.

Also for all movies fans, find out how you can get your hands on film
memorabilia from the ‘Da Vinci Code’ as Lincoln Cathedral start selling off
items used in the making of the Hollywood blockbuster. That’s all tonight at
half past six.

And of course, Paul will be here with the forecast for us. And with snow
forecast for Friday take a moment to think about the tens of millions of people
affected by the worst weather in fifty years in Southern and Eastern China.
Driving sleet, freezing temperatures and an expansive blanket of snow across
the south of the country have caused absolute chaos in the nation.
Unfortunately, this coincides with the massive amount of people trying to get
home for the biggest holiday in the Chinese calendar. The lunar New Year falls
on the 7th of February this year and the already pressurised train and airport
services are collapsing with this onslaught of bad weather. Unbelievably, the
Chinese New Year sees the biggest human migration on earth, with an estimated
two and a half billion journeys to be made over the holiday season this year,
which is almost double the entire population. So we may be forecast a few
flakes at the end of the week, but I think we’ve been spared the worst o!
 f the weather!

Green Cars

It seems gas-guzzlers are on their way out! More eco-friendly green cars will
be sold this year for the first time according to research. It seems that
drivers are bowing down to concerns about the state of the environment and
driven by the rising fuel prices. Sales in the top road tax band for
gas-guzzlers fell by 15% last year, compared with sales of the low road tax
band cars, which rose by 17%. So if you’re reaching that mid-life crisis where
you want to trade in the people carrier for a sporty hatchback, then will you
change your mind? It seems that lots of other people are veering towards the
greener option!

Diet

Well, I’m sure I’ve mentioned before statistics about how a healthy diet can
improve the behaviour of children, which is why this story leapt out at me as I
thought it was fairly similar. Scientists are looking at improving the eating
habits of criminals in order to cut crime and anti-social behaviour. Scientists
are looking at making sure that prisoners get their recommended daily amount of
vitamins and minerals and fruit and veg. They think this may make them less
impulsive and may reduce the amount of violence inside our prisons. So a daily
vitamin tablet will be offered to prisoners to improve their diet and will
perhaps cut down on violent behaviour.

Well, that's it from me for now. Enjoy your day, take care,

Peter
