Hi there, it’s Peter here. What a miserable day! And I wouldn’t mind, but it’s
so hard to keep your umbrella upright and not blown inside out! I bust my
umbrella last week, so I hope I don’t ruin another one this week! Get wrapped
up warm if you go out today and stay safe on the roads. I think there’s quite a
lot of standing water on our roads at the moment, so be careful if you’re
driving today.

On tonight's programme, Look North will have the story of the soldier, who
claims that he has been forced to pay for his own medical treatment after being
badly injured during a tour of duty in Iraq. We'll have more on his campaign
for better medical treatment for our ex-servicemen and women.

Also tonight, can you imagine being told that you've got cancer, having to
endure several operations only to be told that you haven't got cancer at all.
That's the claim of one Lincolnshire man and we'll follow his story as he tries
to get an explanation from his doctors.

Plus Hull born poet, Sean O’Brien, has scooped a £15,000 prize for his work,
but we'll be asking how much do we really care about poetry.

Also, at this time of year, we all know how important it is to keep your car
regularly serviced. Well on the programme tonight, we'll have a special behind
the scenes glimpse of how to keep our historical planes, like Lancasters and
Spitfires, in tip top shape. That’s on BBC One at half past six as usual. Plus
Paul will be here to give us the bad news about the weather no doubt! I hope
you can join us.

We always get a great response from you about items that you’ve seen on the
programme. Last night we had the story about the seventeen year old, who had no
insurance, no driving licence and no right to drive and then crashed head-on
into a Cleethorpes’ couple while racing a friend and then didn’t face any
criminal charges. After that the inbox and answer phone were buzzing with
messages from you. And you certainly were cross about it! Here are a couple of
messages for you just to give you a taster! This one is from A. Campbell, “It
makes me so angry when yet again a seventeen year old is protected from being
punished for his actions by the CPS saying that he is too young and not enough
evidence! If at seventeen the law allows them to get behind a lethal fast
machine, if not driven responsibly with the correct documents, then they should
be punished for their actions! Our son was killed in 2001. The person driving
was also seventeen and walked away without a point or his lice!
nce taken away! The reason for this was there was not enough evidence! Our son
lost his life. The driver was free to walk away and do it again! That couple
was lucky to get away with their lives! Ours has been devastated! Surely these
laws cannot be right.” That message comes from A. Campbell. Thank you for that
message and our thoughts are with you and your family.

And this message from Craig Broomfield. “I'm just so sick and tired of the
liberal attitude towards young offenders in this country. If I was to be
talking on my mobile whilst stationary, I would have had a fine and points on
my license within weeks. If I went five miles per hour over a speed limit, it
would result in the same. Yet that young prat had no license and no insurance,
yet was let off, even when he almost killed someone. Why don’t we have the
'Borstals' anymore? Young offenders were sent there when I was his age.” So
just two emails as a taster of what you were all saying in response to that
story last night. Thanks for those and I hope you keep emailing me about
stories that you care about.

Plonk

I’m not happy about this one! We’re being conned by marketing! That’s the
headline. Researchers in the vine filled region of California have shown that
you can increase a drinker’s enjoyment of a bottle of wine just by sticking a
higher price on it! Do you think that’s right? These volunteer tasters in this
study all gave higher ratings to the wines they believed were more expensive.
Although, little did they know that some of the wines had fake price tags on
them. So do we all have to buy expensive plonk now, because we subconsciously
tend to like wine more if we know it’s more expensive! Oh dear.

Well, that's it from me for now. There are some lovely photographs coming in.
Thanks go to Amanda Nicholson from Hessle for hers at Brompton by Sawdon in
North Yorkshire. Peter Price from North Ferriby sent in a lovely one of the
Wassail at Pickering Road Orchard. He also thanked Paul for the good weather on
that evening – He doesn’t make the weather Peter, he just tells us about it!!
Don’t inflate his ego! And thanks also go to Paul Lockwood of Skipsea, with a
lovely photograph of the sunrise on Beverley Westwood and to Bob Marsden of
Bridlington with his shot of the resort’s North Pier. Some lovely photographs,
so thanks for those and look out for the pic tonight on the programme. If you
want to send in your photograph for the Big Screen, then email me on [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Take care and don’t get wet if you can help it!

Peter
