It'll be hard to find a name that's pleasing to all, but there's a specific purpose behind the name "core".
LPI has already announced a desktop certification initiative. That will have *nothing* to do with system administration and will be targeted at a totally different audience. Yet someone coming into *either* program from a standing start may benefit from learning the basic concepts to be tested in LinuxCore.
I'm working on a roadmap of the programs LPI is looking to do. Once it's out you'll see why the name LinuxCore is so appropriate.
