At the same capacity I think the CA would make the same as an SR in stock
form.
The chambers are identical with the CA having a slightly shallower valve
angle so larger valves are an easier option. The buckets and shim system is
better than the SR rocker setup but SR's have a lot of good bits now that
can make them able to run up past 8000 rpm safely.
Both DET engines have a girdled crank.
If forced to choose between the two engines I would run with the CA due to
its light weight and high power capacity for its displacement.
The port area on the SR is bigger than the CA so probably allows greater
outright development potential

Guys, I would love to get a hold of a ca18det out of say a silvia or 180sx
(i would buy the car with the motor ... duh.. hehehe) and put in a crank
and rods out of a 2 Litre, (possibly FJ20 T ????) and I would love to see
the numbers it would make with as standard everything else...... ie AFM, TB,
intercooler + plumbing, injectors, computer (if it will handle the increased
capacity) So i have done nothing else but increase the capacity a little,
and compare it to a equally standard SR20DET equivalent. I think , like
Andrew says, that they are under rated.... I actually like the valve train /
actuation of the CA compared to the SR........... Although I am wondering
what the port sizes (inlet/exhaust) are compared to the SR??? Basically
what i am chasing is to find out if the both engines had the same capacity
would the power output be the same.... standard engines... no boost
increase.... Bottom line if they produce the same hp ( allow 5%
difference) ..... both at 2L capacity ... I am getting a CA18DET and
stroking it!!!!! hehehehe
I haven't typed a reply for ages so i get a little excited as you can see.
