Eddie,
The rods are the bane of the SOHC CA's
The DOHC' DET is much better (really strong) but the CA16 is a little weak
as well.

Errol,
Have you any idea what the differnce is in the bottom end between the SOHC
and DOHC Ca18's? Is it just the girdled crank design or is it completely
different? The SOHC seem to throw rods and generally fall apart if they are
thrashed. The SOHC engines are very common here (get a mint one for less
than 200 aussie $.) but no good due to their weakness. I just wondered if
there was any mods you could make to beef them up a bit. DOHC's are still
really expensive and for a 1200 or something small the SOHC can still make a
quick car.
