Andrew,
The main problem with rocker breakage is caused by lifter pump up. When you
get pump up the rocker pops out of the lash pad and often snaps the rocker
arm while doing so. If unlucky it may mash a valve into a piston at the same
time To cure the problem there are solid lifter sets and also rocker savers
that limit the rocker side movement. I fit up inner valve springs as well.
With this setup 8500rpm is no problem.
There are no cheap replacement rockers I know of. A good windage tray is
always worthwile. The stock SR setup is good but can be improved.

Cheers
Feral Errol

Errol,
I know what you mean by a problem with the Sr20 rocker setup as I have seen
quite a few with broken rockers. Most of these had been in fairly modified
SR's
that had been reved hard although one had the data log info and indicated it
was being reved to around 7800 max.The stronger after market ones ive seen
sell for
more than a front cut.Have you seen any cheaper ones around as I could be
looking for some shortly. The blocks can also be a problem but ive seen that
nizpro use steel wedges between the cylinders.Ive seen one SR have a melt
down between combustion chambers but believe this was probably caused by bad
detonation as indicated by the bigend bearings.Dont get me wrong I still
think the SR's are a good motor but like all motors have there
limitations,some of
which can be overcome at a price. The FJ20's dont have the same valve train
and block problems although one guy tells me he has thrown the odd shim at
over 9000
rpm luckily causing no damage.I reckon the Fj20 is probably has the best
potential for dollar spent.I would definately fit a good windage tray though
as
ive had problems in this area.My opinion. Andrew Smith
