Interesting topic, I always think that the SR is quite a different beast from the FJ which has more in common with the L-engines we all know and love :) I think the SR is a great engine and has very smooth power in std form, compared to the FJ which definitely has the power without so much of the smoothness. A well-built FJ would definitely be a match for an SR or any other DOHC Turbo, as the Rigolis and Geoff Watson have proved. Once power reaches over 400Hp then serious money is starting to come into play, the FJ is robust and relatively simple, with a stronger (but heavier) block, but the SR has a ton of performance parts available and has produced big Hp also (as have the CADET) it's a hard one...
