Mark, I used a brass piece in mine so that is
why it was brazed. Welded a brass nut on the inside and then screwed a
brass nipple thingo into it. It is actually the same thread as a sump
plug.

hi, the return on my sump from turbo
is 5/8. i think that it would be better to mig it on. i reckon that
braze has a tendancy to crack easier.

The NAPS/Z heads are all the same but they are distinctly different
to the L series heads. You can't use the camshaft or the
manifolds. I have a spare Z20E head, I'll measure the valve and port
sizes for you this afternoon.
As
for the oil feed, I think you use a T-juntion from the oil pressure
sender. Zac, how did you do this? For the return, simply
braze a fitting onto the sump.

if every NAPS/Z head is the same, would I be
better off just putting my Z manifolds etc onto the L20B head, that way I
don't have to mess around with timing covers. also wouldn't the 2L head
have larger ports and valves?
what about cams, would the Z18 cam work in
the L20?

David,
You'd get the same compression ratio as the original engine,
because every NAPS/Z head is essentially the same (save for valve and
port sizes varying), and the chambers are the same size as U67 (L20b)
chambers. No modifications would be needed to the pistons
to fit the Z18ET head to a 2 litre bottom end. The Z20 blocks
are supposed to be stronger, but people rarely have problems with L20b
blocks so there's not really any compelling reason to use a Z20 block
since you do then limit your choice of gearbox. It would probably
be easier though, since you have to source a Z20 timing cover
anyway.

guys what compression ratio would you end
up with if you put a Z18ET head on an L20B or Z20 bottom
end?
is either block stronger? the L20 or the
Z20?
could I get enough shaved off the top of
the L20 pistons to use the Z18 head?
