Plug up the hole(s) in the air cleaner that is.

It doesn't help detonation if there's any sort of oil vapour coming out of
the rocker. Get a redline filter from Autopro, not exy and give it a try.
You could test if the breather is contributing to detonation beforehand just
by disconnecting the breather from the air cleaner and plug up the hole(s)
and go for a quick blast, don't leave the breather hose unfiltered for long
though as it will create a fair sort of mess in very quick time.

Funnily enough you mention this Terry - after yesterday's
discussion I checked out where my breathers were connected, and
the previous owner has connected the rocker cover breather to the
air filter assy before the carby... Think it could be causing
detonation probs?!
