Andrew,

Fitting a PCV valve most likely would return the oil contamination levels to
somewhere near stock in my engine, not totally with webers though as weber
feed L engines get ~2500mls between changes in round town running, the full
3000mls would be OK on longer trips.

My crank breather system strictly speaking is not legal, it's a bit like a
ball bearing in a pollution control line. Oil fumes are only likely to cause
detonation problems if they were being sucked into the intake system,
otherwise I doubt it.

Thanks for the tip on the Zoom article, I don't buy these mags much these
days (unless there's a sweet 1600 or Datto article).

regards
Terry

Thanks Terry,

Oil not lasting as long is an interesting side effect - would this be
eliminated if you fitted the PCV valve?

Have I got the rules straight that your system would still not be
legal if you did have the PCV fitted? Sorry for all the questions - I
am trying to evaluate my options for crank breather systems. I have
a theory that oil fumes may be lowering the effective detonation
point on my L18, and so wanted to try out a different crank breather
to see if it fixes it, but also want it to be legal and somewhat
environmentally friendly :)

btw, latest zoom has an article on crank breather systems -
anyone read it?
