Andrew,

240K brakes (even the 253mm disc) are generally a vast improvement over
stock even with drums and R31 discs on the rear are quantum leap up for
sure, but like anything you do get used to good stopping power over time -
it's a bit like hp - it's never enough.... You may have very hard pads which
are very hard to warm up in Canberra at this time of year. I have a lot of
trouble getting some heat into mine and keeping it there and there's nothing
worse than some clown doing a brake test in front of you just for the heck
of it about a K or two after you've set out for work when it's minus 5. It
happened to me yesterday and it gets your attention and I do like the way
the front of my 1600 looks as it is.

The prop valve will not increase the pressure to the fronts in absolute
terms, what it does do is reduce the pressure to the rear in relative terms,
(hard to describe that concept) i.e. in other words it increases the
front/rear bias. If you have the 271mm 240K discs with twin spots then these
should work very well even without the prop valve as the inbuilt front bias
is far greater than for the single piston callipers. I have found that the
7/8" master does have too much inbuilt rear bias as it was designed to run
with the valve fitted. On the other hand, a 13/16" master in my opinion is
for more suited to the single piston calliper eg Girlock 200B etc. It all a
matter of matching the components for the best performance and then we
change something and throw the balance out the window again - but at the end
of the day it is fun.

regards
Terry

Yep the effort was evident - appreciated thanks. Based on your
description the previous owner didnt install a prop valve :(
I have wondered quietly for a while why others have commented on
the improvement with 240K brakes installed (and rear drums). On
mine they (front brakes) have always seemed to have little effect -
feels like the rears do more braking??! I guess the lack of prop
valve may have something to do with it?!

Thanks
Andrew
