The placebo is the catalyst for the subconscious alteration effecting the change. In all actuality we don't really know if the placebo initiated any change whatsoever. The New England Journal of Medicine once published an article that called into question the validity of the placebo effect in contrast to no treatment at all. http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/344/21/1594 However, for argument sake and in the context of this specific issue of subconscious influence, I would contend that a placebo of any nature, sugar cube or magic rock, initiates subconscious energy that effects desired change.
