Thanks for the info about Persian mines as I did not know that- it
seems gold is fairly well scattered about the globe but the problem is
discovery and ease of access. Read an interesting comment about the
Golden Fleece of Jason- the fleece turned golden as it was used as a
sieve for stream golden nuggets of small size. Interesting!

Well, Allan, what history has ever been free of editing and
rationalizing? None, to my knowledge. It generally takes a good deal
of reading to get close to a balanced view of facts and reality.

The Egyptian priests would also fit that theory of a closed society,
wouldn't they?
