I think it more a sage piece of advice. We are all to some degree or other selfish, the religous amongst us are more selfish than most. yep yep me included.
Why do I say this? Well I'm concerned with my soul, I really don't care what you choose to do about your own. This is all natural and indeed good, indivdual choice, is amongst the greatest of Gods gifts to us. To be able to choose, to be born free and not a slave. Ahh life is good. Think about it, nobody would relinquish choice easily, indeed it is hard to say 'not my will ohh lord but yours' and harder to live it.
