I think what's missing here is the evolutionary relationship between  
the static levels. The progression isn't to split DQ/SQ then Mind/ 
matter then mind into social and intellectual. After DQ/SQ he splits  
sq into an evolutionary hierarchy that starts with inorganic to  
biological to social to intellectual. Then he looks back and sees  
that mind/matter still fits pretty nicely in this scheme.
