This is the part of my letter that treated the said point:
(August 2005)
"But if one studies the early books of the Bible or if one studies
the sayings of primitive tribes today, the intellectual level is
conspicuously absent. The world is ruled by Gods who follow
social and biological patterns and nothing else." I agree most
vehemently with this, and in my opinion it's plain what is
"conspicuously absent" but would have liked to hear your
opinion. So if you have the time and care for it."
Pirsig:
Flattery will get you nowhere ;-) I suspect you want to
hear that what is "conspicuously absent" is SOM, but I am
not sure that SOM was absent in early Biblical times since
early social statements such as "Beware of the crocodile!"
or "Javeh will reward you," are SOM but are not
intellectual in the MOQ sense. A number of critics have
tried to attack the MOQ by defending SOM, but dwelling
on SOM is somewhat irrelevant to the MOQ. It¹s like
critics of Christopher Columbus who demand that he
show what¹s wrong with the city of Genoa before he is
permitted to sail away. He shouldn¹t have to. One can
argue forever about what SOM is or is not, but the MOQ
does not need to wait until that argument is resolve
I don't know who defends SOM but it may be that he sees SOL as
such, although I doubt he understands it at all. I have another
letter where I ask about Phaedrus /ZAMM) who clearly identify
intellect with the S/O divide. His reply to this is even more
irrelevant. This letter I haven't transcribed from paper, but if you
are interested?
