This is one of my pet peeves also. I also think being forced to rent space
on the earth is obscene.   I propose a compromise - anyone can homestead on
public land and raise a crop, but they can't sell or lease the land and all
welfare subisidy is eliminated - no more free health care or food stamps for
the poor.  They plant or they starve. Or go work for a more productive
land"lord".

Whaddya say Platt?
