"Quality does not require special ritual."  I don't know about requiring 
special ritual.  The setup in logic which can point convincingly enough to the 
perception of indefinable reality is not the usual bread and butter statement.

By "special" I mean specific or a particular ritual (such as a tea ceremony) 
that is required for pre-intellectual awareness. But obviously there are 
conditions (and mindsets) which influence this; e.g. the gumption traps or 
hang-ups discussed in ZMM (or generally the S/O perspective itself). Nor do I 
mean to imply that Pirsig's metaphysics, and those working on crafting an 
intellectual edifice from his foundations, are not "special". Of course I think 
they are. :-)
