Well, I noticed a speed DECREASE in 3.69 -> 3.80, actually... but maybe you're
right about the Makefile, I always use the default, not changing anything.
Perhaps the defaults changed..?

I suppose Lame (even beta versions) do not compile in debug mode by default?
(i.e. with the Makefile supplied with the downloaded sources)
Are the assembler optimizations on by default?

Again, I think Takehiro might be right and my memory's performance just sucks...
Plus, Pentium is said to do worse than Pentium Pro and better, disregarding
clock speed.
