I wanted to let everyone know that my family is moving to St. Michael at the
end of March. I know some will be happy about that - Annie ;-) I've even
already been called an Exurban Traitor! But I am sad that we found it
necessary to leave, especially since I will have to move away from my
grandmother who lives near the Falls.
We are leaving for two primary reasons: transportation commute and
affordable housing. And if someone tells you we don't have an affordable
housing crisis (not necessarily low income, but affordable) in the city,
just try and do a search for a 3 or 4 bedroom house. We've been looking for
two years and there are very few options and most of them are too expensive.
There are some additional reasons and I'd be happy to discuss those with
anybody offline. Minneapolis is a great city, but all is not well as the
mayor would like us to believe. I wish I could stay and help, but am force
to do what I believe is right for my family first. And I know you will all
respect that.
I wish everyone well and know that you all have your hearts in the right
place and that the city will be better because of your participation and
vigorous debate. And I want to especially thank David Brauer for this list.
He has guided this amazing resource beautifully and helped give voice to the
people. I hope I can continue to participate as a "guest" on your issues
list. Maybe you'll even want to hear the perspective from St. Michael
occasionally? I know I will certainly want to hear yours.
Thanks for a great exchange of ideas.
